Hey all, i have been looking into getting two Bengal cats, ive been considering either the Bengal or the Aby, Bengal cats was my first choice untill i found out that Bengal cats are prone to have behaviour problems like marking territory (peeing) even tough they been castrated at a young age.

Also, Ive read plenty of examples where Bengals have taken liking to pee on the bed, and or the Sofa instead of the litter box... How many here have had problems like this with their Bengal cats? Im a bit at loss now when i found out that two of my favorite cat races both seem to have some problems :(

The Bengal wich could be prone to become a "Problem" cat, and the Aby wich has health problems mainly directed to bad teeth inherance.

When i started to consider getting the Aby instead of the Bengal, then the recommendation was that i should get two brothers, what do you think is best if you get two Bengal cats? Brother - Brother, Brother - Sister or Sister - Sister?

First of all, welcome to the bengal forum! Know that bengals are no different in behavioral problems than any other breed of cat. An Abyssinian can have peeing issues, marking issues. Cats are cats when it comes to that. My bengal is 8 years old and was neutered at 12 weeks. He doesn't mark in the house, but he marks all the bushes and trees on our daily walks. Regardless of the breed or sex of the cat or cats you get, you can be looking at issues down the road!

Getting two kittens together (siblings, preferably) -- if you want two kittens -- is the best time to do it! They are familiar with the smells of each other and would settle in rather quickly and provide each other with company and play companions. Two bengals are ideal as their energy levels are the same. Two of any breed would work fine. Bengals are probably a little more demanding, much more vocal. It's really your preference.

Maybe I am wrong about this, but I am of the opinion that female cats and dogs mark less frequently than males regardless of breed. Neutered male cats are more prone to crystals in their bladder. Growing up we always had male cats as my mother thought they were more affectionate. My last three cats have been female and I think my preference is with female cats (or dogs). I currently have two sister cats. This is just my opinion and preference.

I have two 6 month old male bengals which were born 10 days apart, from separate litters, but the breeder introduced them for me at about 10 weeks old so I forget myself that they are not siblings sometimes. I would definitely recommend getting 2 of them if you do decide to go for the bengal as a breed because if they are anything like my 2 then they will burn off a lot of their energy playing together and are less likely to be bored or destructive. I honestly dont think I could sufficiently entertain one of them!

They were really well socialised by the breeder so the transition to my house was relatively easy, especially after a couple of days of getting used to their new surroundings. Fully litter trained as well. A few weeks after they got here though, they had the full run of the apartment at this point, they both did get into the habit of weeing on my bed. It happened about 5 times I would say. After each time I would leave them out of the room for a few days, minimum, clean everything thoroughly etc but they were both still doing it. I think it was down to A) being confused of the feeling underfoot and mistaking the duvet (they were still really tiny), B) not having a litter tray in the bedroom for them and C) I don't think I was changing their litter box as often as they would have liked.

This went on for about 6 weeks, as I extended the time in between allowing them in my room each time it happened, but it hasn't happened in ages and I completely trust them not to do it now. I change their litter more frequently, have a box just outside the bedroom door and I think I just managed to break the habit by restricting access to my room. Im not sure if it is breed specific or just kittens in general, but the problem is manageable in my experience. If you plan ahead as best as possible with litter trays and keeping them clean etc it should reduce the chances of it happening. I definitely wish I had thought beforehand because I was in bed sleeping one day when I was left a 'present' all over my legs at 4 in the morning!

All this being said though it was a small problem that was sorted out in a matter of weeks and I wouldn't consider not having them just because they had a few rogue wees when they were tiny kittens! They are really wonderful pets, and there are going to be teething problems whichever breed you go for. I was considering Abyssinians as well, but it was Bengals all the way for me in the end!

we got a Bengal/savannah cross kitten (male) had him for about 1.5 months then got a female Bengal 2 weeks younger from the same breeder. Only problem is they both had poops, went to vet cleared that up, no potty mistakes. I think two is better because it keeps them entertained. Prior we had one Bengal and i think he got bored/lazy and with two they keep busy. Currently they are about 8 months old...

I have two Bengal brothers, the other half was insistent on boys as he feels they are more affectionate. I've had girls (moggies) before, and I would say there isn't much difference in the affection part, as I have found that both sexes are very affectionate.

Touch wood, we've never had an litter tray problems, they have always used their trays and I think we've only ever had one accident of wee, and that was because they trays weren't considered clean enough - I'd worked late unfortunately!

Having two is great because they can play together - and that is very entertaining in itself with all that Bengal energy!

A lady in our neighborhood as 10 cats, 5 of them indoors and claims she has a spayed female who sprays in the house. Both males and females can spray and it's usually a territorial thing. On our walk this morning, I noticed something had sprayed on a fence support -- and I could not believe how high up they got. Raiden went over there to spray over it and couldn't get halfway up the spray mark. I have no idea what it was that did it -- but must have been a gigantic cat or a cat with very long legs.

If both of the cats are fixed and they stay inside the house, they may be fine! Kittens are prone to "accidents" and it is usually because they can't always get to the litter box in time. Know that if you get two kittens, you need three litter boxes. The type of litter box is important as some cats prefer open and some prefer the privacy of a covered one. The type of litter needs to be considered, too! Everything has to be perfect for the kitty. Also know that in a lot of cases, the poop of a new kitten is soft when they arrive due to the stress of the new environment. Owners need to spend a lot of time helping to acclimate the cats. Growing up, we just had cats who came and went as they pleased. They came in to eat and them went outside. We never had a litter box in our house when I was a kid.

If you have any hesitation about getting a cat or two, then maybe you shouldn't. Bengals require time and attention. That's not to say it's not worth it all in the end. I love mine and wouldn't trade him for the world.
