So i got myself a Bengal/Coon X (Mostly Bengal but has the Maine Coon face and neck) and his poo smells like something you would see described in the old testiment, it is the stuff of nightmares and i'm sure i sure one of sadam husseins chemical weapon developers is trying to steal one for analysis, I trully believe satan resides in this cats anus.

He is 8 months old and a bubbly if slightly mental kitten of considerable size weighing in at 3.6kg already, his pee does not smell although he does fart occasionally which is not pleasent. We currently feed him half a can of the small Sheba classics that we feed him in the morning and 1 scoop of Iams in the morning 1 hour after his wet food and another top up about 6pm when we sit down to eat.

I am looking for some good quality food that will reduce the horrific smell when he poops, i suspect it's because the Iams has grain in it or that the sheba does not agree with him. He was fed with Cosma before we got him but he imediately turned his nose up at it when we brought him home.

Proven reasons for cat poo smelling bad would be great as it can help us narrow down what food it is that is causing it to smell so bad and change his diet accordingly, what kind of meat % is perfect and what Iams variants with no grain would help to. Please bare in mind i cannot afford the top of the line designer food and will mostl ikely be able to find a cheaper version with the exact same content, i don't believe in paying for a makers name when the exact same food is cheaper from another maker.

My guess would be that he has some sort of intestinal parasite or bacterial infection. They don't always show up in fecal exams. My kittens had very foul smelling poo and one of them had gas. I brought them to the vet several times and the tests always came back negative. Finally she gave them an anti-biotic for 2 weeks to see it that helped. It did. I also give them a probiotic every day. No more bad smelling poo or gas.

I have had this problem before I went to grain free diet and wammo all better in seventy two hours! Less poo too!

Does anybody or any cat's poo smell good? Geez, sometimes I can hardly stand the smell after Raiden goes in his litter box. The other week, I stepped in someone's poo in my yard (not my cat's. He doesn't go poo outside) and the smell was horrific on my shoes. I have cleaned and cleaned them and they still smell!

Food can affect the consistency and smell of poo, so just try another type of food -- or people who feed a raw diet claim the poo doesn't smell at all --but I highly doubt that story! Poo is waste after all. It's the garbage that your body could not absorb and has to expel.

Raw poo does not smell at all. A lot of people don't believe it but it is true!

Sherry the poo smell before medical treatment was so bad I could detect it the second it left the cat's body from the other side of the house. Scooping the litter box was torture. After treatment the litter absorbed the odor and I have to sift through the litter to tell if one of the cats pooped or not.

I don't smell it if Raiden has covered it up, but since he had coccidia and I've been trying to check the consistency of his poop to see if it's gotten back to normal. So when I hear him digging his way to China in the litter box, I run to it and watch him. Then I shoo him out of there so he doesn't cover it up. That's when it smells to high heaven. Outside of that, I never know if he's used the litter box. Thank goodness for great clumping cat litter.

Raw is the way to go, though you might not be interested in the effort.

We just moved house, and have the cats' litterbox temporarily in the bedroom. I have purposefully been feeding the cats only raw during this time (I usually feed raw and dry food), as I know how much of a difference it makes to the odour of their poop. I have barely noticed the box is in our room this past week.

Also because of the move, I haven't gotten around to making another batch of raw food and have just run out, so they are now on dry and ughhhh the smell of the litterbox today! It can't be in the bedroom anymore, to be sure!

I'd bet quite a bit of money that the culprit is parasite like TF or Giardia. Yes, you can change the diet and attempt to mask the symptoms, but way better to get it taken care of at the vet. Call and talk to your vet first, there may be some special instructions for collecting poo samples etc., especially if testing for TF. When my bengals had giardia, it really did smell awful. It filled up the room and adjoining rooms with stench. Now not much smell at all.

I don't notice any difference in the smell. Raiden has had coccidia. Maybe I just didn't pay attention.

Thanks for the advice guys and get him checked out when we get him neutered next week. If it's parasites etc i imagine a broad spectrum anti biotic should help.

Thankfully, Raiden did not have TF as his poop is now normal. Most parasites can be treated with an antibiotic, but then it's always difficult to give the cat. The last medications were liquid that I had to syringe in my cat's mouth. He wasn't happy, but I think it was better than pilling him. That's impossible!!!

TF poo indeed smells like the devil is in it. Is the poo runny or solid Gromit? Do there seem to be any other problems apart from the smell?
