So I just received the paperwork for my new snow Bengal in the mail from the breeder.

On her profile it said all kittens come with pedigree papers. However, I didn’t receive any.

I mainly only cared about the vet paperwork, but I still wanted to receive pedigree papers. Not only because it was mentioned that they would be provided, but also because I was under the impression that all purebred animals come with pedigree papers.

Do you think I should contact the breeder and request the pedigree paperwork?

Zuki clearly looks like a snow Bengal, so I am wondering if this is something to bother with or not?

Is zuki neutered or spayed? I am only getting the papers once my two have been spayed. They were last Monday and I had to send a picture of the papers I got from the vet to get the papers. I would call the breeder and ask about the papers.

A purebred cat should come with a pedigree and it should be freely given by the breeder once the cat has been spayed or neutered! That's usually how it works. Papers are necessary if you want to register the cat as a purebred. Should you ever need to sell or rehome your kitty (hopefully, NEVER), then you'd need that to be able to advertise your Zuki as a bengal. You should have no qualms about contacting the breeder and mentioning that you received the medical papers but not the registration papers for the pedigree. It could have been an oversight. If the breeder hems and haws over this ... you obviously did not get a purebred bengal and there is little recourse for you. It's buyer beware!

When I took on Raiden, the vet was the one who told me he was a purebred bengal. Months later, I ran into the previous owner (who lives 4 doors down from me but is rarely home). I asked if he knew what F generation Raiden was. I was just curious. He went into his home and got the blue TICA registration papers and handed them to me and said, "It may be on here." It wasn't, but I realized Raiden had NEVER been registered, so I got that taken care of and got a 5-generation pedigree. I spent 3 months on a pedigree website to take the ancestry all the way back to all the Asian Leopard cats -- very long pedigree, but super interesting.

If you want the papers, you should be able to get them, provided your breeder is on the up and up and can provide them.

I got the blue sheet for TICA registration about 2 months after picking up Quasar. I did register him. Although he is neutered and I don't intend to show him, it is fun to have it in his photo album. I did not get a pedigree for him but can certainly view his lineage in the online registry.

Just because you don't plan to show your kitty doesn't mean you shouldn't register the cat with TICA. It continues the pedigree even if the cat is not going to reproduce. I ordered a 5-generation pedigree when I registered Raiden. There is a great website http://www.bengalpedigrees.com that has nothing to do with TICA but you can research the ancestry of your bengal -- and you can put your bengal in the database as it probably won't be in there. If the parents aren't in there, you can put that information in from any pedigree papers that you get. From there, you can do up to a 15-generation pedigree instantly which will be LONG but bring up all the kitties and hopefully at least a few ALCs.

I never expected to get papers for Raiden as the previous owner GAVE him to me. I was never going to ask for them. But he offered them and I took them and registered Raiden. Happy I did! I love the laminated 5-generation pedigree that cost me $50, I think. Well worth it in my opinion.
