Hello my name is Genevieve and i live in Switzerland. So please have mercy with my English and sort if I am posting this on the wrong board. I am 26,married and have 3 children. Our 4yr old son and our two four legged bengals They are sisters and are 5 1/2 months old. Their names are Phaedra Syrene and Lilith Jolene...but we call them FayFay and Lili for short.
My question I what do/did you feed when your bengals were kittens?
The breeder told us to feed Royal Canin kitten. One pack of wet food a day and the rest are the dry food from Royal Canin. I'm a bit unsure what to do, because an owner of Sphynx cats told me Royal Canin I bad. Apparently it isn't even in the list of middle good food. Anybody feeding Royal Canin or could give me a tip what food could be better (if Royal Canin is such "rubbish")?

Well, there you are Genevieve! I saw your post on the other topic. Your kitties are beautiful! And Welcome to the forum!!!! Many owners here feed the Royal Canin food with no problem. Go along with your breeder's recommendation. Congratulations and enjoy those gorgeous bundles of fur.

Eh, I think you are right to contemplate switching. To answer your question, I too fed Roayal Canin Kitten to begin with, as that's what my breeder feeds her kittens, so I did it for continuity sake, but then I switched off of that a month in or so and began researching food like mad. Keep in mind that breeders have a lot of mouths to feed, plus Royal Canin will "partner" with breeders and vets, so they have extra incentive to feed Royal Canin, and you really should be able to do better. Plus with the age of your kittens, it's time to switch from the kitten formula to an adult formula.

If you were in the States I could list a dozen brands that I think are better (but Royal Canin is far from the worst, it's middle-of-the-road imo), but the best I can do is point you at some articles to give you some criteria for selecting some better food.

Keep in mind that statistics and all that are revealing and helpful, but your cats get a vote too! And it never pays to feed a cat a food that they don't really like. So that needs to be a big part of the equation. Also, especially when selecting canned food, your eyes and nose will often give you a lot of info about the quality of the food (in addition to looking at the ingredients). When something looks and smells like something you might consider eating, chances are they used some pretty good ingredients, and when something looks and smells really vile, chances are it is!

Your two bengals are so beautiful! My kittens also came to me eating Royal Canin kitten food so I continued. They had runny poo so I searched out another food for them and things were better along with probiotics. I'm sure we have different cat food brands here in the states, but Brian gave you some sound advice about what to look for in the ingredient labeling. Try not to switch around too much as kittens tummies are sensitive. Enjoy your new kittens!

Cats turn their noses up at a lot of food choices, so you need to feed them what they like to eat!

Your kitties are spectacular! I am also in the U.S. so not sure how much I can help with food choices. But I have looked at Royal Canin in the past and decided not to feed it to our cats.

Thank you all for your input! I got a can of Om nom nom from that Sphynx owner to test. Its made out of 96% chicken. With whole chicken hearts in it. Feeding BARF is also like a hype here. I do understand that raw meat would be best. They can't go hunting because we only take them out on a leash ofcourse.
Here is the thing: They both ate from the Om nom nom and seemed to like it. The only thing is they both got diarrhea and were vomiting. The lady that gave it to me said its normal because now they have fluid from eating. Hope that makes sense... But I didn't go and buy Om nom nom. I have also tried a raw meat frozen sausage (the ones you can cut and defreeze) it was mainly beef. They only took a smell of it and left it alone!
I bought a huge bulk pack of Royal Canin wet food so I will keep on giving those until I come up with another plan food wise.

Hello and welcome - your girls are beautiful!

Any new food should be introduced very gradually ie, you add a bit in with their usual food, gradually decreasing what they were on and increasing the new food over at least a week. Otherwise, yes, they will get diarrhoea - they have very sensitive tummies!

I'm sure you will find something that both you and them are happy with eventually, it all takes time.

Ok since i am introducing myself I would like to introduce my two Bengal's! They are sisters born on the 17.3.2015 the lighter colored girl is Phaedra..she is abit clumsy. Hiding behind curtains or blankets is her fun. She is also the first one to come running when the shower is on. The darker girl is Lilith. She is the "smarter" one. And she loves sleeping on my feet at night. They both are always around me watching what I am doing. They are very energetic when they aren't sleepy. They love to play together and i love watching them! They play fetch and love water. I just love them sooo much
