I am very concerned with my kittens eye. I just got her yesterday from the breeder and I want to be sure that she does not have any underlying issues. Here is a little info and pictures, if anyone has any insight please let me know.

Age: 4 months

Sex/Neuter status: female - unneutered


Body weight: 3-4lb?

History: Breeder sent me a message because she knew I was looking for a second bengal. She said she had one left over but she had an eye issue, I gladly took her and love her to pieces, but I am worried the breeder misinformed me on her eye. She told me she had eye trauma as a kitten, which caused her symptoms, and that the vet said it would be fine and she can see okay as well.. I feel like there is more to it and would like some advice.

Clinical signs: Cloudy eye, no discharge, pupils will not dilate properly, squinting eye, pupil looks deformed, doesn't seem to bother her - no pawing or agitation.

Duration: 3 months

I think your best bet would be that you take her to your vet and see what he thinks. It is very likely that any issues that may arise in the future with that eye will be excluded from any pet insurance you take out for her as it would be a pre-existing condition.

Is her nose okay, it looks a bit dry?

Has she been checked for herpes in her eyes? I got a Siamese from a breeder years ago and he had herpes in his eyes. I had to have him treated by an animal optimologist. Luckily there was one located an hour away. He had special eye drops and eventually it went into remission. The cat had other serious health issues and sadly did not live long. Hopefully your kitty has something less serious. You should have a vet check your cat out so you know what you are getting into.

I would be concerned that her pupil is dilated as compared to the other eye. The vet definitely needs to see her to find out what is wrong. She could have a neurological problem or other visual deficit as well.

Please take her to a vet. He may recommend an specialist who can better diagnose the problem. Poor little girl. She is really beautiful. Until you get a proper diagnosis, you're not going to know how serious or permanent this may be. But only a vet can tell you. I'm guessing for the time being her vision is limited in that eye. There could be a number of things causing this, so the sooner you get her checked out, the sooner you can have the results. Let us know what you find out.

She probably can not see out of that eye. We have a moggie with a similar issue, he was a found cat so we have no idea what happened before he came to us. He had limited vision for a very long time but lost all vision in his bad eye about 2 years ago. He is none the worse for wear though, you would never guess he's blind in one eye.

I would take her to the vet to see if anything can be done for her and make sure it's not something that is going to get worse.

I would take her to the vet to find out if she needs any special care, eye drops, etc. and to diagnose the problem.

Definite trip to the vet.
If it is an old scratch or trauma, and it has ulcerated and / or developed uveitis then she could lose the eye altogether.
If it is uncontrolled glaucoma, which it does appear similar to, then it is possibly treatable - but quickly! There is a high likelihood she will (if not already) lose the sight in this eye, and may need treatment to save the sight in her other. She can still have a great life, but you will need to make changes, for her safety.
I would certainly want to speak to the breeders vet and ask why they did not treat the eye when they had examined the kitten.....
