Hi there

I'm new here and very much hoping that someone might be able to help me.

Our bengal, Stanley was lost to us on Saturday. We bought him from Mandy Lymer of Consortio Bengals. From what I can see online, Consortio Bengals are no more.

While we're in no way looking to replace him, I decided to investigate finding a kitten or breeding cat that shares part of his lineage. It would be some comfort to have a shred of his DNA back in the family.

His mother was Consortio Apple Blossom. His father was Finegold Story Teller. Grandparents include cats of Bundas, Bambino, CH Millwood and Aluren breeds.

This might sound like a ridiculous endeavour borne of mourning, but I'd appreciate any help. The three of us (my boyfriend, Stanley and I) had been together for nearly 10 years. Without him, we're just two sad childless losers crying over the past.

Sorry to hear you lost your boy.

Have you tried this link?

http://www.bengalstudlist.co.uk/bengal_stud_list.htm

There seem to be some breed names mentioned here that you mention in your post and it will pass you to their websites.

Wishing you both the very best x

I am so sorry for your loss. Do you have Stanley's registration papers? Are you able to purchase a pedigree from that? Unfortunately his parents names are not in http://www.bengalpedigrees.com. That's the best source to find cats and breeders, but it's a manual database and people have to put their cats in there. My bengal's mom and her parents were not, so I had to add them to complete the pedigree.

Google is a great tool as well since many breeders list pedigrees as pdf files. Good luck!

I know you are all lost without your baby.

Oh Bless you, every cat parent will understand what you are going through losing your beloved Stanley. I looked through my Oscar's pedigree but don't see any of the names you mention. A couple of great grandparents are Millwood bengals though. Oscar is from Glitterglam bengals. Maybe the bengal stud list Claire suggested will give you your answers Good luck and big hugs x

Thanks for your suggestions!

I have his papers with his parents' registration numbers- but you're right, I can't find them on the database.

I know for sure that his father, Finegold Story Teller went on to sire more litters but the trail on Consortio Apple Blossom is cold. I believe Tarantela Bengals have some Finegold in them, so that's heartening.

This make me appreciate how much work must go into breeding; in terms of furthering the breed etc.

Also thank you so much for checking your cat's papers! Very much appreciated.

That's great - I just had a look at their website and Billandbengals Theo of Tarantela sbt has Finegold Story Teller as his great great grandfather.

I checked my two as well and they have Glitterglam in them and Bundlebengals - bundlebengals have some Finegold in them too (check their stud Aslan). Callum is a great grandfather of my two and is a quad grand champion. It was great to find a pic of one their ancestors.

I've found it quite interesting delving into their ancestry and like you it made me realise how much goes into the breed.

I wish you all the luck in the world to find a new Bengal companion as I know how lost I'd be now without mine.

Big hug x

I did Raiden's pedigree all the way back to the ALCs. He has a few hundred different cats in his pedigree -- none of them are from Consortio or Finegold. Once I delved into it, I found it super interesting!!! It took me over three months to get through it and I created a spreadsheet for it (Now I found out I could have created a 15-generation pedigree just by changing the number in the URL from 5 to 15-- and that's almost a 500-page file -- Melissa, you can do that as well for Oscar and save it to your computer). Anyway .... I'm sure you can find some information on the internet. I think all of the Millwood EG cats are in the pedigree database. Most breeds started from Millwood -- then after that, they can go anywhere.

I did some googling for you. The biggest problem is that the parents of Stanley are probably no longer breeding, so you would have to look for "offspring" and not go back to the grandparents. Tarantela Bengals http://www.tarantela.co.uk in the UK list pedigrees with Finegold Story Teller and they even have some Consortio bengals in there, but I didn't see that any offspring were still in their breeding program. If you scroll down on their page is the a link to contact them. They may be able to help you further.

You know, there's a bengal kitten out there that needs a home. Don't worry about the pedigree so much. I know your heart is heavy, but you will find the perfect bengal for your home.

Thanks, everyone. I found a little Tarantela boy. He was born with a hole in his belly, which is being sorted out- along with his neutering meaning he'll only be available 3 weeks later than they usually are...my boyfriend is wary of the belly problem. Does this sound familiar to anyone? I still think he looks like a lovely character.

Your decision needs to be based on whether the vet feels the hole is nothing to worry about in the future. Don't rely on your breeder to say "oh, he will be fine." Ask for proof from the vet. If there should be no further problems with the kitty, by all means grab the little guy up. He sounds adorable and he will need a good, loving home.

A hole in the stomach, is that like an ulcer? Does it require surgery or just medication? Even if you get pet insurance, that might be considered pre-existing. Digestive issues are pretty common with bengals as it is, this might be a lot to take on.
