Hi everyone ,
I'm after some advice about the best way to transition from wet and dry food to a completely raw diet ,
I currently have a 9 month old Bengal boy named Winston and next weekend I will be picking up my new Bengal baby Brucie , I obviously won't be changing anything until Brucie is settled in his new home and think it would be better to change them over together as they are from the same breeder they eat the same food currently so my question is what is the best way to go about this ?

What advice did your breeder give you? Normally, you would slowly introduce the raw food into the diet. An abrupt change in the feeding can cause diarrhea and other digestive problems. Eventually, the kitties would be on a full raw diet. The kitties will need supplements to provide nutrients they are not getting in the raw diet. Some on here do feed raw, so maybe they can add some more to this. Remember, these are kittens and are still growing. They need to eat multiple times during the day.

The transition to raw is highly dependent on the individual cat.

Some cats take longer because they don't recognise the texture or smell, some are quicker. Age also plays a large role, younger kittens are generally easier to transition.

The simplest thing to do, is next time you are preparing any human meat meals, just slice off a small chunk and 'drop' it or put it in their food bowl. See what happens, take it slowly.

Also you don't 'need' to supplement anything in a raw diet. Supplements are just a myth prople like to hang onto, for the most part. This does not mean cats don't have dietary requirements! They do, and one important one is Taurine. The only way you do not have to supplement the cat's diet in raw is to feed them everything from the animal -- including crushed bone for calcium. Taurine is a necessity for cats. In a raw diet, this means heart and liver. In the wild, cats eat their entire prey except for the teeth and nails.

Thanks for the replies , I currently give winston a raw chicken wing everyday as this is what the breeders advice when I got him and he used to other raw meat as he gets bits when I am preparing dinner ( not pork though ) so he is used to raw meat already and my new boy Brucie will be the same as he is from the same people !

It's not often I come across someone who doesn't feed a complete raw diet. It's no real extra work and you really don't need to supplement it with pills of this or powdered that. The only supplements that really makes sense are whole raw egg and oily fish. As long as you have:

Meat 70-80% including heart or at least dark 'working' muscle meat, like leg meat
Bone 10-15%
Offal 10% if which liver can be 50-100% as long as you make up the rest of the % with another secreting organ

Our typical 30-40kg batch would have:

Poultry
Beef
Pork
Poultry necks
Poultry carcasses
Heart
Liver
Kidney
Testicles
Lungs
Tinned cooked sardines (NOT in brine)
Eggs
Water/blood

All cut to chunks, mixed, tubbed & frozen.

Cats typically won't eat the stomach of whole pray, if self caught, only usually frozen supplied.
