Hello everyone! I am counting down the days until I bring my baby home but to keep me busy in the mean time I am working on catifying and a super highway. I am thinking of getting those square shelves (Example: http://www.kohls.com/product/prd-209769 ... or-set.jsp ) to put on the wall behind my tv (large wall) does anyone have experience with these? Are they sturdy or will they fall with her weight? I know there are shelves specifically for kitties but this will be hubbies first cat and I want to....ease him into catification. So I am looking for something that will be functional for pictures or knick knacks but still allow for kitty climbing. I really hope this makes sense to someone! TIA!

Suggestions are welcomed and encouraged!!

Well, if the pretense is that you are getting these shelves for the cat, then I'd say that is a very poor choice. Way too thin, way too flimsy. If you get shelves for the cat's usage, she's going to want to jump on and off it, sleep/perch on it, run across it etc. That shelf would be more like walking across a tightrope for her, an accident waiting to happen (especially above your tv) so no, I'd say definitely get something much better.

If you want something that really looks sharp, and is made for a cat, then something like this:

Thanks Brian. I thought that would be an issue. I would have the cloud shelves in a heart beat but, as I said, this is hubbies first cat and he is less inclined to have shelves on the wall just for the cat. I know he will come around but in the mean time trying to find something that can be functional for us and her.

That is why I was looking at the square shelves. misc in the square and she could use the tops. I think I will wait a bit I guess. Let hubby get used to being owned by a cat then stick up proper shelves. I am just chomping at the bit to get her here and trying to keep busy.

If you look on etsy.com they have several great options for cat shelves! They can be very attractive and usable. The best of both worlds :)

The nesting shelves you're wanting are not going to work. The small one is way too tiny and they aren't wide enough. Plus, your kitty is going to want to get inside the shelve and if you have something there that can break -- well, good luck! It's super you want to catify your home, but you're going to have to do it for the cat and not for the hubby! He is not going to use the shelves as a bed. Brian posted a couple of great options. When you have a cat, the cat needs its own space. That can be a cat tree which is free standing. There are hundreds of designs and many that look like furniture even. Nothing is really cheap when it comes to certifying your house. If you want something functional, you can get large cubes and stack them up. You can put things in the cubes and the cat can climb and lay on them. Keep searching and you'll find something. Shelves need to be at least a foot wide and cubes are even wider. Remember, your kitty is going to grow!

As Brian stated -- you'd think the bengal is agile, but Raiden nearly tumbles off the back of the couch when he's walking on it.

Awe, Serafina is such a pretty girl, so athletic and focused too!

OMG Brian! Serafina is so pretty! It also looks like you got the stink eye a couple times putting her toy up there! LOL. I think I will look into those stackable block shelves and see what I come up with. I already have a tower just delaying putting it together. BK I will definitely look into etsy, any tips on key words to use in the search? CMYK I think I will do the same and delay the shelves until I get a feel for her personality and what she likes.

Brian, what great videos! That's one way to wear out a bengal. She sure has a long way to jump from that cat tree. Raiden has two shelves below his condo on his cat tree, but he prefers to jump from that! Anyway, your Serafina is beautiful and, hopefully, everyone can see the benefit of a shelving system like you have for your kitties. I wish Raiden would carry things in his mouth -- I've seen him ONCE carrying a pineapple toy. He has several different types of mice and he won't even play with them for more than 5 seconds. How old is your girl? I'm thinking Raiden's previous owner didn't play with him very much and just let him roam outdoors. Raiden does love to "hunt" moles outside and my husband can actually get him to play with Da Bird. I can't!

As for searching online, you can use "cat" anything. You need to make sure the cat has enough room to turn around and there are no dead ends. Some of the shelves are so beautiful. They just hold cats instead of knick knacks. Jackson Galaxy has a book on catification (he's writing another one) and there are people who go crazy with things for their kitties. Bengals just need vertical space and I find cat trees solve that problem.

My partner Martin made these for our 2 little monsters. He made everything except the cat tree (though I think he will probably try to make a similar one soon)! Our kittens love them and will chase each other around. :)

GREAT catification!!!! Nice to have a handy person in the household. I want to build shelves in Raiden's outdoor enclosure so he can climb up and down the walls there. Trying to find something plastic so it can get wet with no problem. The enclosure is covered, but if the wind blows, the water comes in.

Really really nice job! You guys should definitely be really proud of that.
