Hi,

We love our bengal and have talked about giving her a friend. She is a 5.5 year old retired queen who is super active and exceptionally loving.

Who would be the best friend for her? Another adult? Similar in age? Or a kitten?

Thanks! :) We aren't making any decisions probably even this year.

My advice is to first find a breeder that you trust 100% and get their opinion. Every cat will be different and there is honestly no way someone can tell you if an adult or kitten will be best. We can all give you our opinion but that's exactly what it will be. We recently brought in our boy Mochi into our home with our 3 year old girl. He was 1 day shy of 12 weeks when we brought him home and they get along great and they have from the first day they were introduced. It has been a great experience for everyone and I would do it again in a heartbeat. On the other hand we have introduced another adult to BB when she was 1 year old and it was stressful. Not only for her and Jasper but for everyone in the house. We were all on pins and needles for a few weeks waiting on them to "work things out". In the end they got a long great but the process took a lot longer and was more stressful. My opinion would be to get a kitten with a comparable personality from an ethical breeder. One that not only screens for HCM and PK def but for temperment as well.

ETA: your girl is absolutely gorgeous too! She has beautiful markings!

Hi bkilgore! Thanks for your response! I didn't realize it was so cat specific. My breeder said to introduce kittens only to her, but some of the other advice she has given me about Onyx hasn't held true, and that is why I was looking for more advice. Thanks for your response :)

And thanks for complimenting her appearance!! Here's more pictures :D I guess her appearance and behaviour is quite desirable because she had 8 litters!! :O Poor mama... interesting how her eyes reflect different colours, hey?

Introducing a kitten to her is likely to be far easier than introducing an adult. The reason is that the kitten poses no threat, and doesn't (initially at least) have an ego to worry about. The kitten won't try to own territory etc., he'll just want to get along. But that's not to say that it would be without risk. You know your cat best. What is she like with other cats? For example, what is her reaction when she sees another cat in the garden (if that has happened)?

Since she's had litters, she knows kittens! I would probably go that route for the reasons Brian stated.

Thanks Brian and Sherry! Good to know! We have only had Onyx for just about three weeks and she has not met another cat with us yet! She was apparently a very loving mom though.
