Hi everyone! I was hoping I could create a discussion related to litter best practices.

I am new to this (only had my bengal two weeks), and am not fixed on a certain brand yet, but we like the unscented clumping mixes. Our litter box is covered, and she is ok with the door.

Does anyone have a great litter mat they can recommend?

Any brand of litter, or product that really makes this process easier for you?

Great concern! I also have a covered litter box and think that works best. For the mat, I am not sure what is good because my litter box is in the bathroom on tile and is easy to clean up. You are doing the right thing by sticking with the clumping litter. I recommend "Worlds best cat litter" because it last FOREVER. Also, it is flushable and all natural which is convenient when cleaning. It isn't too expensive and the cat seems to like it, so definitely try it out!

We use the cheapest clumping litter Costco can provide. I have 3 boxes for my 1 boy, 1 on each level of our home. Two are the igloo type. One is homemade, a storage box with a big hole cut in the lid for entry.
I have never worried about scent. Quasar eats raw food and his excrement does not smell.

we tried various ones and stopped on those 2 types of litter
( we use 2 types of litter for 2 cats, this is what they decided they want to use)

Golden Master Grey or White
Best OKO plus

we also use a couple of large storage boxes for litter boxes, plus couple of smaller ones
Large storag boxes tend to be used for 'number 2 (poo) , and smaller ones for 'number 1( pee)

Congratulations on your new "baby." I have no idea what type of litter Raiden was raised with, but I prefer Cat's Pride and he doesn't mind it. His box is in the utility room off the kitchen. I use a large black trash bag which I have under the box and run it up the wall since Raiden sometimes raises his butt up and it's more like marking. The bag catches it and I just have to clean it. Raiden doesn't track litter, so I don't have it all over the house. I'm sure there are commercial mats that you can put under the box that will clean the paws.

I have light tile and I wanted a generous size attractive mat that didn't jump out at you visually. It stays put and is soft. Sometimes Grace sits on it.

We use Special Kitty brand litter from Wal-Mart it's a good clumping litter for the price and with 6 cats and 7-8 litter boxes we go through a lot of litter. I also love the Clump & Seal from Arm & Hammer, it's a very tight clumping litter but it's expensive so I'll usually pick it up on sale and mix it in with the other litter to extend the life of the litter.

We use plastic tubs and hooded boxes mostly. I had to stop using the open boxes because we have one "elevator butt" who stands up while urinating and pees on the walls and one cat that pees as soon as all 4 feet are in litter so he tends to go over the side of standard boxes.

Right now we've got 3 tubs, 3 hooded boxes and an extremely large open box (biggest one I could find). I've got another tub I need to set up this week.
