Hey Guys and Gals, new to this site, i have two lovely babies, beau a ragdoll and Thai a Seal Mink Bengal, the problem here is of course Thai. hes 7 months old ( today ) and weighs 10lbs!! is this normal?? hes not fat at all but im concerned at the food this boy packs away, he is constantly wanting fed, if i leave him a while ignoring his im hungry calls he will bring the food to me!!

he also is drinking a hell of a lot of water, he is very active - plays fetch and doesn't ever tire out, only gives up when my arm gets sore and i stop throwing the ball.

beau in comparison is 10 months old and weighs 6.5lb she is quite happy to eat as she pleases. however if thai has eaten all of his own food he will start on hers.

im beginning to think he thinks his name is Thai-No :)

Check out this webpage and see where your kitties fall. 10 pounds is a lot for a bengal less than a year old, but some males can get up to 20 pounds.

Going from a lean and healthy kitten to a fat sluggish one happened so fast with my cats. I guess I kept them on kitten food too long. at 9 months Blondie was 10.5 pounds (she is small boned so she looked overweight) and Grace tipped the scale at 13 pounds, 11 ounces! Grace started missing her target when she jumped. I cut back on their food and a month later Blondie looks good and I can tell Grace slimed down somewhat, but she needs to loose more weight or grow more. They will get weighed this Saturday so I will know where they are at. Just that little weight loss has Blondie running and jumping like a kitten again. I noticed this morning that Grace was growling at Blondie to leave the food dish so she could have the rest of the food. Blondie obeyed. It is going to be tough keeping Grace trim. She is such an aggressive eater. I can just imagine what goes on when the auto feeder pops open while I am at work.

thanks very much everyone for the quick replies! - i had a look at sherrys link and he does look the ideal weight! i guess he is just going to be a big boy, i have a vets app for him in a few days ill see what they think, he doesnt look at all chubby, sometimes i look at him and think where do you put all this food!!, came in from work and the rascal has opened a box of dry food from the bottom, looks like they are self feeding! :)

Raiden had his annual check up and shots today and his weight was 12.75 pounds. The vet said he's a perfect weight and very healthy. His heart murmur is still a Grade 2. Will have his teeth cleaned in a few months, but that was the only thing they found. Raiden was not a happy camper on the way there, in the waiting room, or on the way back. But he was very good while the vet examined him.

Last weigh in Diesel was 12.6 lbs. He doesn't look "big" compared to our other cats but when you pick him up he is solid, I always tell him he has a lead butt because he's so heavy for his size. But when I compare him to the chart he looks like he's the perfect weight.

Diesel has a pretty good size pouch too, honestly he's probably on the high side of 5 right now so we've been making sure he gets more exercise. We've got a little tortie moggie who is more on the low side of 5 and she's got a huge pouch, makes her look overweight but she's not at all.

The feel and look of the cat is the most important factor to take in consideration. Bengals are active and especially the males can pack some serious muscles. People always comment on my cat being much heavier than he looks, so it's not uncommon for them to be "big". Just feel the sides of your cat - you should be able to trace the ribs and detect them on a normal sized cat, if you have to dig in to feel them then the cat is most likely overweight.

You can also look into the food you give him - the cheaper dry food contains "fillers" that make them eat more to feel full, while still giving them more need for water because of the higher sodium content compared to higher quality cat food.

I estimate my Kitty's weight through her ribs..

Sometimes she's over eating for days and sometimes she's a picky eater all of a sudden..
Probably depends on the mood.
