Dexter to see specialist vet

Rally, thank you. Funnily enough I was going to ask you today how the treatment was going so good to hear you think it may well be clearing up now.

I've had Dexter in the past on mostly chicken based cat food as I just assumed that would be less likely to cause tummy upsets but now I'm wondering if he has an intolerance to it. I think with most commercially based cat food it has all kinds of rubbish in it that could cause problems whereas raw it's just that isn't it. Don't think Dexter would take to raw though as I've tried him with bits in the past and he won't eat it.

The Vet asked me to keep Dexter on the lamb for two week's so I'm going to do that unless she suggests something else. We now appear to have the opposite problem and he is a bit constipated. I'm due to hear from her any day now with the recent faecal results so I'll talk to her about it then. Maybe there is something I can put in his food to help him with that.

I'm not sure where you are based but I am in the UK but will look that food up you suggested and see if I can get it here. I've started to make a list of possible foods I can use and will run them past the vet at some stage to see what she thinks.

Must admit I am worried if I'm asked to start gradually reintroducing foods again as I'd hate for poor Dexter to go through more suffering but I guess it's the only way to find out what is causing his intolerances. In the long run I know that would be better as it might be difficult to just keep him on one type of food forever.

When my cats got over their bout with runny poo, I thought they were constipated. Turns out they only poo once a day instead of every few hours. That awful smell is gone too, thank goodness. I know they have to be happier too.

I thought they distributed their food there too, but on second look it looks like they might be imported because the prices on amazon.co.uk seem really high.

Oh well.

Well good luck! I think things will get better for them eventually, it just feels like forever when you see them sick -_-

Dexter did a lovely little poo this morning. The type you could pick up!

I even took a photo of it to show dh lol.

I know he's a bit constipated because I've seen him straining in the litter tray trying to go.

His tummy is bulging a bit too.

A little bit of canned pumpkin (the regular one not the pie filling one) will help with the constipation and it's usually easy on the tummy. I know we use it a lot on dogs with sensitive stomachs or IBS issues.

Thanks Donna, his poo seems a little better today and I have some good news :biggrin:

Heard from vet and Dexter has tested negative for both TF and Giardia! Obviously I know there can be false negatives but with his poop now being firm everything is looking positive.

Muskey, our Burmese hasn't been tested yet and we are going to do that next.

Vet has asked me to keep Dexter on lamb for another week and she will give me another ring on Friday to see how it's going. She suggested we could at some point try him on a lamb based diet for cats who have itchy skin as they usually do well on that although she also said there is no reason we couldn't try him on normal cat food at some point although as you can imagine a bit reluctant to do so!

Won't be putting the two cats together again until we have results for Muskey and Dexter is on a diet that Muskey can eat too.

Can't tell you how happy I am feel like celebrating :mrgreen:

Oh wow! You must be thrilled, that's such good news. Hopefully Muskey will test negative as well and once you find a food they can both eat, they can be best buds again!

Tesco's delivered lamb chops instead of lamb steaks today!

Real pain as I had to cut all the fat off, cook, then debone so about half the amount of meat I usually get for the same price which means I'll have to go shopping again mid-week.
