Hey everyone, i was wondering if anyone has a solution from preventing their cats running out the doors. On the rare occasions that we see some sun in england i was hoping to be able to have my back doors open but dont want the cat to escape. Is there any way round this also windows could be a problem. All suggestions welcome

I looked into this last year for the same reasons. I found a company that do pet screens for windows, but it was going to work out quite pricey for us, the website is streme.co.uk. We live in a bungalow with patio doors and conservatory doors that really need to be opened as they are South facing and the solutions didn't seem to be practical for our situation and then there's the cost as I already mentioned.

Other than that you could build a cat enclosure so you can open doors and windows and your cat still be safe - as well as benefit from fresh air.

In the end, we started to let ours out as we hit that really hot weather last year and nearly suffocated! I do worry about them though so I'll keep a close eye on this thread to see if anyone else has found a solution!

It's always best to not allow your kitty to roam the great outdoors. Limiting their space and exposure is the best. Raiden still runs to the door when he sees us going outside, even though we go for daily walks and he has a 12'x12' cat enclosure on the deck. There are so many things you can do for your kitty. Google is your friend. Options do not have to be expensive. Any do-it-yourselfer can put together something that will work. There are even portable enclosures.

The bigger problem is trying to make sure your kitty doesn't escape when the door is open. I guess in England, you don't have bugs. We in the US have screens on all our windows. If it were me, I'd try to get screen doors to fit on the conservatory doors which would let in the fresh air and keep the kitty inside. Or, I'd purchase a large, covered pet crate and put it out in the yard and put the cat in it making sure there was food and water for the kitty.

There is also cat fencing that you can put around the area where you open the doors and the cat can safely go out there but can't escape. Just search for some different things and you'll get a ton of ideas.

I will be building a cat enclosure in the near future so maybe he will have to go in there then. I looked at fly screens that magnetise to the PVC door frame but bengals being the clever cats they are would probably figure how to get a claw in the mesh pull it back and climb through. Maybe im thinking to far into it though. Has anyone considered a stake in the ground and having the cat on a length of leash? I did also look into cat fencing but i have trees in my garden that join onto the neighbours trees so i figure he would climb along them to escape. Luckily i still have sometime to plan for the summer lol.
