BB is in the habit of SLINGING litter everywhere in the living room and in the hall way. Both of her boxes are the same and are covered. The one in the hall rarely gets used but for some reason every morning there is a 6 ft ring of litter around the box. The one in the living room is her favorite and therefore has even more litter outside of it. So getting up an extra 15 minutes early to sweep the litter up, clean the boxes, and add more litter has been the routine lately. So my question is...... is there a box that I am missing that prevents them from throwing litter out? She is not just tracking it out, it's full on digging and throwing it out of the opening. I tried to convert one of our storage totes into a litter box with a hole cut in the top. It sat there for two days and she never used it. I even put the one in the hall away and placed it in that spot and nothing. I think it's just a game to her now and maybe it's from boredom because she has never done it before and nothing had changed as far as her boxes go. She also "attacks" me when I am cleaning the box. And no I do not mean aggressive attacking but my like attacking the scooper and rabbit kicking it. Then she proceeds to pounce and dig wherever I am digging. It's actually quite funny but very messy.

I have been looking at a "clevercat top entry litter box" it is essentially a storage box with a hole in it. Or the "petmate top entry litter pan" which is a slightly cheaper version.

We have an igloo type box that Quasar still manages to track some litter out of.
I made another one out of a storage box. I cut a hole out of the lid and he jumps in and out of it. Any excess litter falls off his feet and onto the lid, which is easy to clean. It took a bit for him to get comfortable using it but now he is using it as often as the igloo type.

I will keep trying to encourage her to use the litter box I made. Knowing BB, she will not give in lol. I have also just ordered an igloo style box. I am hoping is she decides to throw litter it will at least catch most of it since the opening is around a corner. I don't mind cleaning up after her tracking it every where, I think that's a normal part of owning a cat. It's the mounds of litter that she is throwing out that's getting to be a little annoying.

I've got that problem with one of our moggies. She just goes to town in the litter box and makes a HUGE mess. Using totes/tubs as a box works for her, no lid, just jump in and out. She still gets a little litter up over the side, but it's not nearly as bad as it was.

Raiden uses an open litter box that I keep in the utility room. He's usually pretty neat about it except when it's full and then he will fling it out everywhere. I just sweep it up. There is a covered litter box in the enclosure but he never uses it. That litter box has a flap over the door. There would be no way for Raiden to kick out the litter through the opening since it's closed. Just think of the exercise you're getting. LOL

Haha yes I am getting exercise lol. I have lost 80 pounds in the last 7 months maybe it's thanks to B Her litter box is supposed to have a flap over the door but it was taken off not long after we got it. Someone needs to invent a bengal proof litter box, if there is such a thing. I was quite surprised when I woke up this morning. There wasn't much litter in the living room other than on her rug that is in front of it. I just had to shake it out and go about my morning routine. That I can handle, the sweeping under the couch and tv stand, all around the livingroom and down the hall. It is a little much, but my husband seems to get entertainment out of it.

I just use storage bins for their litter boxes. The sides are high enough that they don't fling litter out of it. The breeder I got them from used storage bins so even as little kittens they were jumping in and out of them...they love it.

I just took the top off of BB ' S I am hoping she will use it now. If not I am going this weekend to invest in a vacuum for hardwood flooring

Sounds daft, I know - Have you tried putting less litter in there? She may be less inclined to scoop it all out if she finds only what is needed to contain the functions..... LOL!

Haha yes I have tried less litter. If there isn't enough litter according to her standard she will sit there and dig and dig and ......dig at the plastic on the bottom of the litter box. It's almost like an obsession of her to dig in her litter. Apparently it is fun to her because she gets in them just to dig.

Yes I make a huge mess scooping too. It's very often that BB "helps" me clean the boxes which often ends with me covered in litter as well. She is such a mess lol

I believe BB thinks she is digging somewhere. She REALLY gets into it. I have left the other box out and she has yet to use it. I even dug around in there to try and entice her but she didn't go for it. Usually the sounds of me digging in litter sends her into a digging frenzy but nope. I will just invest in a hand held vacuum and go on with it. I'm sure that will be much easier. Her igloo box should be here by Tuesday as well. Maybe she will use it since it similar to her box now. If not Mochi will have a variety of boxes to choose from.

Just tie her paws together and then put a nappy on her! Problem solved - Until new baby Mochi begins to learn from her behaviour..... LOL! xx
