Hi all,

My kittens, Pi and Tau, are almost 5 months old now, so I thought it was about time I introduced them to the world!
It's been wonderful watching the 2 brothers (silver spotted) develop over the last couple of months, such different personalities!
Pi (blue collar) is an extrovert and makes friends with everyone, insisting on pats. He's also the more adventurous, the more agile, and the more intelligent.
Tau (red collar) is an introvert and a mumma's boy, will only come to me and is a big softie. He's also the boss, but also the gentler of the two.

Needless to say, love them to bits!

I've been off work sick for a month, and have a few more weeks yet before I can go back (not serious, just glandular fever, so resting lots). So sad that I get to spend every day with my kittens! LOL

I can't believe how much they've changed in not even a month.
I've decided they become cats at 6 months, and no longer kittens. Tau being the bigger has already graduated to his adult collar. Pi will get his on his birthday in 2 weeks time.
They are crazy fun and I can't believe how many toys I've bought them! Fortunately they are happy with the cheapies. That or they appropriate something of mine and it becomes theirs. :)

My friends don't believe the antics they get up to so I've started making videos as proof.
They are all up on youtube - just look for the cats :)

I've been told by a vet that I was brave to get two. I can't imagine only having one!
And I might even be fostering a younger one for a couple of weeks. My GP bought her from a backyard breeder (rolling eyes) and she isn't fitting in well. So I've offered to take her, socialise her (sounds like she needs a safe, serene environment) and then we'll put her up for adoption (of course only if I don't fall madly in love with her first!)

At 6 months of age, Tau suddenly seemed to droop, not himself, off his food, etc.
A trip to the vet and blood tests, followed by forced feeding and daily hydration therapy.
By the end of the week the tests were back and the diagnosis was as conclusive as it could be.

Tau had wet FIP, was fading fast, and clearly in a lot of discomfort.

I made the decision to let him go at 6.5 months old.

With one still very active, exuberant bengal at home, I can't believe how quiet the house is without Tau.

Pi turned 8 months old today. I'd love to get him a bengal kitten companion, but don't think I can face that pain again, nor risk inflicting this terrible disease on another kitten.

I don't know what to say...I'm so sorry. I think you should get Pi a little brother or sister, I'm sure that he misses Tau tons. Stay strong

I've talked with my vet about lowest risk options for another cat.

Considering that Pi must be a carrier of the coronavirus, so I have to assume new kitten/cat is at high risk of getting the virus if it doesn't already have it.

So then it is about lowest risk factors for kitten/cat with the virus to not mutate into FIP, if that makes sense.

Vet recommended, a non-breed, slightly older (12 months+), which has already been vaccinated and desexed a while back ( to minimise stress). Balance that with finding one that has enough energy and spunk to keep up with, and set boundaries with, a bengal kitten!

I'm looking. :)

Andrea, I am so sorry about Tau. At least he had you for those few months! I hope you follow through on getting another friend for Pi. It will be good for you as well. {{{HUGS}}}

I'm so sorry you lost your baby to FIP. It's just terrible, they go down so fast and there isn't anything you can do. I lost a moggie girl to it several years ago.
