I have a 9 month old Bengal and I cannot cut her claws. I think I have managed to cut 2 claws since I got her. When I pick her up she is fine but as soon as I try to clip she starts to growl and then turns into a wild animal. I have been scratched several times now and I am sure it is just as distressing for her. I have tried to wrap her in a towel and hold her while my husband attempts to clip but again the results are the same. I can pick her up and cuddle her without any issue and she lets me touch and hold her paws, but that's as far as I can get. She is now getting caught on the carpet and scratching posts. She really needs them doing.
I would really appreciate any ideas?

I have the same problem with one of my females. The other one will let me trim her claws in the afternoon when she is sleepy. I gave up trying to trim the nails of the feisty one. She yells before the clipper is near her nail like I am hurting her. She is too strong for me to restrain. I had Soft Paws applied about 6 weeks ago while they were in a destructive kitten mode. Now they have all grown out so I am going to take them in for a manicure at the vet, at least the difficult one. In addition to cutting the nails, they sand them nice and smooth so they are good for 2-3 weeks. I have no other option as she is snagging them on everything and I have fresh scratches from last nights play time.

Soft paws will probably work. But the vet can always trim them. They know how to handle a cat. Just know the claws get sharp again! I did have a cat who let me trim her nails with no problem. I could not even attempt this with my bengal.

There is a type of scratcher that is corrigated cardboard with a sandpaper-like coating. You can get one of those and that can help dull them some. If you aren't able to clip them regularly, try to get her used to you touching her paws. The claws can grow so long they curl around and embed in the pad or skin and you want to be on the lookout for that.

Thanks so much for the great suggestions, I think I will leave them alone for the time being and just keep an eye on them and any problems with curling round and I will take her to my vet. She is still only a baby so hopefully one day I will be able to clip them without any issues.

The nails drop off as new layers grow beneath. They won't curl around and back into the paw pads like the way a horse's hoof grows. They are naturally self-limiting.

If you are clipping them because you think it's for her benefit, you really don't need to. I don't know anyone in real life that clips their cats claws.

My cats are young and knead my skin when I am half asleep. When their nails are not trimmed they poke holes in my skin and give me the hives. They don't mean to do this but they still need to be cuddled and kneading is a big part of that for them. We went to their vets office early this morning and they trimmed and filed their nails smooth. It only took about 10 minutes and cost $10 per cat. I want them to keep their nails so they can run around and climb and be cats. I can see them settling down so frequent mani-pedis are just to get us through the first year.
