I'm collecting my beautiful little boy on Saturday and I want to make the trip home as stress free as possible. It's an hour and a half trip by road and I'll be sat with him all the way as my other half has kindly offered to do all the driving for me!

I've got a nice airy and spacious cat carrycase with a soft mat and a soft heat pad for him to sit on as he makes his way home with us.

How did your bengals react to being transported the first time? Do they cower away or assume it's part of some big adventure?

Well, my cats all react differently to it. Binky just sits at the very back of the carrier frozen into a statue until he's home and then he runs from it and hides for a while. Mikesch thinks it's a cool adventure and dearly would love to get out of the carrier to look out the car windows. He will wear a harness, so I just recently got him a safety harness for the car so doesn't have to ride in the carrier any more. I haven't tried it out yet though. Mr. Sue will crawl around and around and around in his carrier and meow all the way. Both of them will actually sleep in the carrier when I leave it open at home, but they don't like to be closed in. And Katie goes into panic mode and tries to push out of the carrier. I can't use the plastic carriers with her because they have sharp edges on the inside (serious design flaw, if you ask me) where she will cut up her nose and then bleed all over. Her panic mode usually starts about 10-15 minutes into each car trip.

Forgot to mention: I spray my carriers with Feliway the night before and about half an hour before the trip to help them calm down a bit.

Great idea about the Feliway - may well dose the carrier down on Friday.

Erwin currently has a T-shirt of mine (to become accustomed to my scent) and that will be going in the carrier too so he should at least feel reasonably secure.

Thanks for the heads up on the edges of a plastic carrier - I'll double check mine tonight and take some sandpaper to any rough or sharp parts. The open cage/ventilation parts are metal but I guess it's best to make sure.

I cant even use those carriers with Olly. He HATES small spaces.. I have no clue why... He throws himself around and will scream, he has hurt himself a few times. So I just but his harness on and hold him. He seems to do a bit better that way. He still crys (but not as much) and hides his head in my lap... I have a small dog kennel that I use sometimes that he freaks out in but not so much as the carriers. Only thing his he is too smart for his own good and knows how to open it.


Good luck when you pick your little one up! I bet you can't wait, make sure to post lots of photos.

Well, Erwin came back ok yesterday afternoon. There was an initial bout of scrabbling at the sides and a rather angry yowl, but after a while he was just content to just comment rather grumpily on the injustice. One thing though that actually sent him to sleep for a while was singing old Boy Scout campfire songs to him! Don't know why, but he finds songs about eating worms to be very soothing!

He's home and settled now and is eating well. my only vague concern is that he doesn't appear to have been to the litter tray yet. There's no obvious signs of an accident elsewhere so I hope he doesn't keep on holding it in! Pictures (when I can catch him) are on their way!
