My female cat started peeing all over the house a couple of months ago so I decided to get her dressed. After I got her dressed I thought she had stopped it till the other day I caught her doing it again and all over our shoes :( if anyone has any advice on how to get her out this horrible habit and why she is still doing it would be great. Also what works best to clean it up with and get the smell away. Thank you Lauren-Ruth

I've never had an issue with spraying, so I can't help you much there. All I can suggest is that you make sure she feels safe and ubstressed as much as possible. As for the stains and smells, use an enzyme cleaner such as Nature's Miracle or Petastic. It'll break down the molecules in the urine so they no longer stain or smell.

There is a difference between urinating and spraying. While both are basically the cat peeing, spraying is the marking an object with their scent. I'm guessing you just recently had her spayed. Her behavior, if it's marking, may or may not stop with the spaying. If she is peeing outside the litterbox -- which it sounds like she is doing (versus the spraying -- spraying is usually up against a vertical surface, tail high in the air). First you need to make sure there's nothing medically wrong with your girl. Urinary tract infections, crystals in the bladder. I'm guessing you do not have other pets in the house? If she gets a clean bill of health, then it's usually stress. Something has changed in her environment.

My 7-year-old male (neutered at 12 weeks) marks bushes, corners of our house, while on our daily walks. We have neighborhood cats that come into our yard, so it's a territorial thing. Recently, twice he has sprayed up against the headboard of our bed while my husband and I were sleeping. He'd never done that before, so .... decided to close the blinds so he cannot see the other cats coming into our yard. Bought a Feliway diffuser and the spray and make sure I spray the area daily. He has not done it again. He faithfully uses his litter box to urinate in. We've had a new cat come into our yard recently and I think that's what set this off.

There are special cleaners for pet urine. The area must be cleaned completely. You also need to restrict her from the area where she normally does this. Shoes are usually on the floor or in a closet. Put the items behind closed doors. There are motion-activated canisters that blow air when something trips the sensor. Usually these are put near the areas. Some people put aluminum foil on the floor or carpet as cats do not like the sound of walking on it.

However, these are just the cover ups. Determining what is causing your female to do this will help with a permanent solution. I know you are at your wits end with this, but it is going to take some investigative work on your part (and possibly your vet) to figure this out. Your girl is trying to tell you something. It's not a fast, easy fix, but stick with it and things should work out. Also, do not yell or try to punish your kitty, which would just add to her stress level. I know yours is through the roof, but what your kitty is going through is probably worse.

If she has been spayed and is still peeing, then you really need to get her urine checked. If it stopped for a while, it could be that following the op she has developed a small infection which will need treating.
