Here is an Em update (btw, I've posted before - his name is officially Cayce, but his nickname is Em, or "Mr. M," so that's what we usually call him.
He is a tiny bit better, but in no way perfect. The small kitty is being fostered at a friend's to see if he improves, but it's now been over a week, and I'm not seeing the improvement I would like. He is now eating - a tiny bit. He pooed in the litter box this morning, so at least I know he's getting a little bit of nutrients and isn't in eminent danger. He has now been to the vet 3 times, and no one thinks there is anything seriously wrong with him. Here's the timeline so far:
Last Saturday and Sunday: tons of vomiting in the morning. Seemingly in response to smaller cat? Monday: listless, unresponsive, and dehydrated. Trip to ER. Ultrasounds and blood panel taken. Nothing wrong, except for slight thickening of intestine, which 3 out of 3 docs still say is too minor to worry about IBD or other things for now. Blood totally normal. Tuesday: seems better post-hydration, has anti-nausea meds and appetite stimulants. Wednesday: back to not eating, or eating very very little. Friday: after days of this, back to vet for IV fluids. Vet things this is extreme GI stress, intestines filled with gas. Gives 3 meds. Saturday-Sunday: seems very improved, eating but appears to struggle a bit. Swallows a lot, still can't meow, not grooming. Took a long drink from the new fountain we bought him. Monday: seems pretty good in morning, seems to not like chewing. Toward mid-day, seemed to crash big time. Back to tired, did not drink at all, though intermittently ate a bit of wet food when prodded. Called vet, said I could take drop him off to be monitored today. This morning: He at a bit and used the litter box. Starting to worry about traumatizing him with so many vet visits. Have decided to monitor at home unless something looks really really off. Made an appointment for next week to see if he just needs time to destress and recovere.
Basically I have no idea what is going on, and it seems like the vet doesn't either (all 3 of them). Not sure what to do, if I should give up the tiny kitty because Em is just too fragile (this would break my heart), if I should watch and wait, or just keep taking him to the vet over and over.
