Hey guys. We recently moved house. I thought it would stress our cat to all hell, but it only took him 10 minutes to become adjusted and love the new space.

However, a neighbour's cat has started spraying against our door at night. Irritates the hell out of me as it's not even legal for the cat to be outside at night.

Our cat's fine with it, sniffs it and that's about it. He still uses his litter tray and isn't trying to spray back.

The doors always open in the day time, with the security screen closed. Our cat Loki often just sits by the open door, watching the kids in the pool. He even goes outside in the area with a harness on. Because this is his area too, I don't want to put something like scat down.

Any advise on how I can stop it?

Interesting! my kitty litter is also just by the door about a couple cm's away and lately my cat has been trying to spray near the door. I have not noticed any cats. I will keep posted to this thread as i might have the same problem

A friend has offered me a cat trap. Recommended to use it and then take the culprit to the RSPCA centre. The cats have to be registered, and they will contact the owner for them to come collect. Along with a fine for letting the animal out at night ($150 I think).

Not too sure about his solution though.

I have neighborhood cats that visit my yard, but none have sprayed near the house. They use the bushes. Then Raiden goes for his walk and has to put his scent everywhere. My problem now is that when Raiden goes into his enclosure, he will spray the window. Doesn't do it every day, but I can see the streaking and I have to clean it. I know it's a territorial thing as he can see the other cats in the back yard.

I don't know if it would help to have a discussion with your neighbor or not. I have a friend who feeds a lot of stray cats and she has a neighbor who will trap the cats and take them away. She gets called about them and has to pay a fine to get them back. And in her area, cats have to be on leashes. I think you may be better off just having a conversation with the owner. The owner probably has no idea this is happening and it's a problem.

I need to find the owner first :)

Oh the elusive cat owner. Now that the weather is getting better, just ask when you're outside "do you know who owns a light orange tabby?" Or whatever type the cat is. It took me a while, but I found out where the other cats in the neighborhood live ... still have one who comes around once in a blue moon. While the spraying at your door isn't affecting your kitty now ... it could become a problem down the road. It would be nice if the neighbor decided to keep their cat inside. They are probably not going to do that. I guess you could always put something outside your door that would repel the cat. Moth balls? Citrus rinds? I don't really know what might do the trick.
