That is the most insane article I have ever read! I would like to think who ever shot him would be held responsible, but I highly doubt it.

When I first saw Raiden on my deck, I thought it was a wild cat. I didn't know anything about Bengals, Savannahs, Ocicats. We have bobcats in the woods behind us ... that's what I thought it was. I wouldn't shoot the thing, buy Savannahs are large cats. I'm putting the main blame here on the owner for allowing the cat to roam free. As we all know, there are fencing, enclosures, harnesses which allow the cat to be safe when outside. I'm sure this person who shot the kitty had no idea it was a domestic cat. It's been just a year since my black and white Bear disappeared! I've learned my lesson in letting a cat run free. I'm still heartbroken over Bear and I'd be devastated if something happened to Raiden. I walk him daily and he has a very large cat enclosure he can access 24/7. I'm sure this Savannah would have been very happy here.

I live in the Detroit area and saw this story on the news from the beginning when people were making a big deal about some "big wild cat" roaming the neighborhood. There is no shortage of stupid out there. Seriously! These people were saying the cat was stalking dogs and they were afraid for the safety of children! I saw the pictures of the cat and figured it was a Savanah. Again, I say who would be afraid of a cat? I also blame the news for making a big deal of a bunch of ignorant idiots opinions which led to the killing of a pet cat. Unfortunately this is the way Detroit residents handle things they don't understand. With ignorance and guns.

There are some ignorant and inconsiderate people out there!
I hope they feel guilty for the rest of their lives... :diablo:

This is incredibly sad, but also not unexpected. Many areas of Detroit are very rough and full of uneducated people with guns. I think it's still actually listed as one of the top 3 most dangerous cities in the world. Whatever cat owner let his expensive savannah cat walk around the streets of Detroit is a complete moron.

I used to live in a northern 'burb of Detroit. This was before the city went bankrupt, the auto companies went bankrupt etc., but even back then it was a rough town. That was the first time I'd ever seen businesses and schools with metal detectors in the entrances. Owch. But honestly, the criminals that you worry about most there aren't the ones with guns. It's the ones that cannot afford a gun, and are of that level of desperation that you have to worry about more

Anyway, in the owner's defense, a cat can escape from even the best of owners. But yea, the response is not altogether unexpected  A real shame though. Makes me sick to read about it.
