Hi, I'm new and I'm looking to adopt two Bengals, but I'm not sure what combination would be best. I would probably be getting one kitten and introducing a young adult a bit later. Has anyone seen a particular combination that generally works best?

Hi there and welcome.

From experience? One of each to balance things out.

Females can be a bit skitty and like to do things on their terms, they can also be timid and don't particularly like to be held.

Male cats, from my experience, are laid back, very easy to get on with, and like to be held. I think male cats are more tolerant.

Of course, you will get opposites of what i've mentioned above and of course, each cat is very different and you'll never know what you've let yourself in for until you get him or her home.

I have two males. Due to tragic circumstances they are six weeks apart and from different litters but from the same breeder. They love each other to bits. Big cousin certainly looks after the little one and plays with him. They share everything even their feeding bowls.

This is my first experience of Bengals having always had Siamese in the past and mostly females. I have over the years had to introduce quite a few cats who were not related. I found that if I handled the new arrival a lot so that it picked up my scent and purfume then it was accepted very quickly within a few hours and no more than one day. It also worked this time with my little boy.

Also - don't be fooled in to thinking it's only males who spray...my female, Saffy, my female, sprays for England!
William is a relatively new addition for us - he's 8 months old, Saffy is nearly 3. They both get along great, despite the age gap and not being litter mates. Although, i have to agree, the bond between litter mates does seem to be quite special (although not all litter mates will get on!)

I know this post ia a month old but being new to Bengals too...Definatly go for 2 its keeps the destruction factor down! We were worried about the cost too, but (luckily for us) we contacted a breeder just after a litter was born, Max is actually the runt of a litter, and we got him for a fraction of the cost - except for a smaller chest you wouldn't have a clue he is a runt. But having spent the last 4 weeks with Bengals, the cost of 2 kittens will definalty be less than the resulting cost of a bored Bengal!

I would recommend a boy and girl. We had Rolo who was neutered and then got Jaz who is our queen and they got on great. Rolo was the laid back one and jaz was the boss but I dont think Rolo actually cared.
