Hi everyone

Was just wondering whether we could have a section on here where you could buy/sell or swap cat stuff e.g. I have a lovely cat bed/scratcher that my two are quickly growing out of. There is nothing wrong with it and I need to get a bigger one so would consider selling/swapping/buying - (perhaps you bought a large one and for some reason your cats don't use it)?

Also, there are toys you buy sometimes and think "They'd love that" and when you get it home, they take one look and walk off!!!

I second this idea in a way. could be a good communial trading thing for respectful owners.

Great idea, Lisa. I think it is also important to mention in the ad where you are from. So, let's say you are in Europe, and I am in Canada, it would be easier for me to decide whether I am interested or not.

We are definitely prepared to give this idea some more thought. Any items would have to be purely secondhand/unwanted or swaps. Commercial sales and kitten/cat sales would obviously be strictly forbidden. It would be down to members to ensure that any items are properly described/priced and to state the country they live in etc...

This forum cannot be held responsible for any goods being sold/swapped by any member on here, and the responsibility would be down to each member whether they were selling or buying.


What exactly would members want from this? Any further ideas/feedback will be greatly appreciated.

As an example, I have a small cat tree that my two kittens have outgrown. It is in fabulous condition so I don't want to just get rid of it. I now need a larger cat tree. So if somebody wanted to swap/buy/sell etc, then that would be great.

I also have a few toys that I bought for them thinking "Ooh they'll love that" but they just are not interested in it!! At the moment, they are cluttering my living room up!!

As this forum is worldwide, we would obviously need to put on our adverts, where we are situated.

I suggest the following "sub-sections" (although to simplify this could simply be stated in the heading)

FOR SALE/SWAP - CAT TOYS
FOR SALE/SWAP - CAT TREES
FOR SALE/SWAP - CAT FOOD

What do you think shouldn't/should be allowed re. selling/swapping goods?

Do you think it might be an idea to get members more involved in this; i.e rules for goods for sale etc... Even 'non-cat' items can be considered within reason.

I'd like to hear more feedback from members with any ideas so that you can all feel more involved.


Please post any suggestions here, and then perhaps we can decide on the best way to go forward.

It does sound like a good idea.
Another forum I'm on does similar, it also encourages people to post when they find bargains related to pet products.

The heading is "Secondhand/Non Commercial Goods" and the blurb says - This forum is for private individuals to place second hand, unwanted goods for sale (cat related goods only). This forum is strictly for private/non commercial sales only.

They have a sep section for "Specials" - This forum is for members to inform other members of specials they come across.
Business's such as shops are NOT permitted to advertise here. If you wish to advertise your business please contact me for details.

So something similar would be good.

I think it would also be nice for some specialty items, made by forum members, to be posted for sale. I hsve seen several diy products that I would purchase. Like organic cat nip toys, you can buy them at pet stores but it would be nice to support a fellow bcf member if someone made them. It wouldnt be secondhand but I would rather buy items like that from someone on the forum rather than a big store. Like Mike and Tammys collars, even tho I dont think they visit often(just giving an example). Also handmade cat trees/shelves seem to be popular!
