Chilli has just eaten some food.....fingers crossed it stays down! He has had some water and a tiny drop of kitten milk esrlier and he wasn't sick so hopefully all on the mend.

I'm a bloody nervous wreck with these cats! First the TF and now the poison scare!!

First of all, Lisa, congratulations on being married to the same man for 21 years!!!!

I understand the panic you went through. First time flowers and then to read how lilies can kill cats, and you become paranoid! I am happy all seems to be well with Chilli. Next time, tell the hubby to give you roses! LOL.

Well I have just found out about this too, so thank you for posting! I caught my fur baby chewing on a lily leaf over three weeks ago. I presume if he was affected I would know about it by now?!

Alvin35 - Most but not all lilies are poisonous so you were very lucky!

Happy to report that after the vets today, Chilli has eaten three times and no more sick. Yay!

I'm still on edge and will keep a close eye on him for the next couple of days just to be certain.

It's getting to the stage where I've got the vet's number on speed dial

Final update (I hope)!

Chilli is back to himself eating and playing with Rio. Tearing round as if he was never ill!

Still glad I took him to the vet though (even if it cost £50). My mind was put at rest and I slept last night ;)

Dont feel bad Lisa I was in the same position not long ago! My husbands grandfather passed away and there TONS of flowers given to the family. We went to my in laws to pick up what had been given to us and our children, there was a HUGE peace lilly that was given to us. I didnt think anything about the pets but googled it to see if it could be toxic for kids (I have four and most of my friends have small kids) and little did I know they are more toxic to my furkids than the human variety! I was freaked out! Im so glad I thought about thr kids getting into it (I ate poisonous flowers as a child) or I probably would have just brought it home!

My mum was paranoid when I was small as we had a massive Laburnum tree in the garden and these are extremely poisonous to humans. If I played in the back garden, she was constantly reminding me not to go near the tree!!

Holy Crap guys. I'm resurrecting this post because it scared the hell out of me. I had no idea whatsoever. I've just read this post and rapidly removed 2 Calla Lilly plants from my bathroom and thrown them out. One used to be in a pot in the lounge and I moved it onto a high bench in the bathroom because my two boys were ripping it up a couple of months ago.
I can't believe I could have killed my best mates. You guys have potentially saved their lives!

I'm guessing you had to look far and wide for a post that is 3 years old! Happy that it may have saved the lives of your kitties.

Just to add to this post and sorry if I am scaring people even more but it's not just the stargazer, cala lillies that have 'death pollen' as I call it. There are other flowers that are from the lilly family that don't look like lillies but they are....they have the same lilly pollen and the same risks. To be honest, cat owners should just stick to roses

It's all right, stuff happens with cats! One of mine decided to hop up on the table and devour half an avocado before I knew what she was doing. Then she cried and cried when I took it away from her. But she didn't get sick somehow.
