It was my 21st wedding anniversary yesterday. Hubby has NEVER bought me flowers (trust me I've hinted lots)!

Well - look what I got delivered to work yesterday ;) I was speechless. Aren't they gorgeous?

Very nice, but are those lillys? If so please don't keep them in the same house as your cats really deadly poisonous. Apologies if I'm stating the obvious, just the hint of lillies and cats gets me worked up.

I did not know that lillies are poisonous to cats! Thank you for letting me know. I feel stupid for not knowing this :(

They were out of their reach thankfully so no harm done.

No sarcasm. I genuinely did not know! They are most definitely out of reach on top of my fridge freezer (impossible for them to get up there) and as this is the first bouquet of flowers I've had since I met hubby 24 years ago, I don't have a vase to put them in lol. So they're still in the cellophane haha

The pollen is particularly dangerous as it spreads all over their fur and they then lick it off, do not let them near the pollen. Even up on the fridge freezer the pollen can fall off onto the ground
Lilies are not only poisonous to cats they are lethal to cats, causing renal failure and death.

Think I may have spoken too soon.

Just after binning the bouquet of flowers, Chilli has been sick a few times.

I will keep my eye on him and get him to the vet in the morning first thing if he is no better.

I am sat here sobbing. I hope it isn't the lillies as that would be my fault and I couldn't forgive myself for not knowing they are poisonous. I honestly didn't even know they were lillies - it's the firat bouquet I've had and I'm not a gardening person.

I would have put money on it that they have not been in contact with the flowers as they were still in the cellophane and up out of their reach. They haven't even been disturbed since I put them there yesterday??

I am hoping and keeping everything crossed that he is ok in the morning.

I will let you all know.

Oh man, I really hope that his illness is just a coincidence. I'm holding my breath waiting for news

He has eaten some sardines this morning. All ok. He is a little quieter yhan normal but still into everything with Rio and charging up and down the stairs. Rio is fine btw.

The flowers, thankfully, were still in the cellophane up on the side leaning against the wall slanted backwards so even if some pollen had fell, it would have gone INSIDE the cellophane and not up and over the edge of it and then outwards to drop down.

Also, the flowers had not been touched or moved in the 29 hours they were in my house and so I think I've had a VERY lucky escape. If the cats had jumped up at the flowers, they would have fallen down as they were only propped leaning on the wall.

Phew!

I'll keep you updated as I would still like to know why he was sick.

Oh! I wish you all the best! I hope that your cat being sick is just a coincidence! Don't beat yourself up for not knowing! I din't know lillies were that poinosous to cats up till a few months ago as well. My boyfriend likes to give me lillies (his favourite,not mine )and now I forbid him to bring lillies home.

Thanks Byakabu. I just feel bloody stupid for not knowing.

I will keep my eye on him today as I'm still worried why he was sick and let you know.

Took him to the vet as he was sick again today.

Took flowers in binbag as well. Most of the lilies were still closed except for one but that was in middle and low down way beneath cellophane. As Chilli hadn't been seen near them and the bouquet hadn't been knocked over, vet said highly unlikely to be cause of vomiting. He took temperature and it was normal. His gums were fine and he had a good feel of his tummy. All fine. He also thought it was encouraging that Rio is fine as they are always grooming each other and i would have thought if Chilli had it then so would Rio. He gave him an anti-sickness jab and pro kolin paste. Obviously I will keep my eye on him but great news!

Sod's law - this is the FIRST time hubby has bought me flowers in 24 years and the panic and stress it has caused!

Great outcome! No harm done, and you learned about the hazards of lillies to cats (and I'll bet a lot of other people did too reading this). Anyone want to own up to that and help Lisa feel better? The second outcome is that you'll now never get flowers again. Your husband is probably saying "f%@@ that!"

PS your cats now each have one less live. 1 down, 8 to go
