Hi guys my 14 month old bengal has lost all interest in cuddles stroking or even the odd brush past my leg while feeding. I am very upset as she has always been over affectionate would even sit on my lap while I sat on the toilet. I want my bengal back any ideas do I leave her to come to me or not?

You could always try enticing her with treats or playtime.

I wonder if she is going through the teenage/young adult independent stage. My 2 Bengals are too young yet to know if they will do this, but I had two non-Bengals (moggies) once and they went through a more aloof stage when nearly fully grown. Kinda like teenagers - lemme alooooonne..... I'm a big girl now..... I'm NOT a baaaaaaby....

In their case ( a male and female) they grew back into loving and lovable cats within a few months. Just needed to show me they felt grown up and not needing kitten kissy cuddles.

Keep tempting her with toys and treats and I think she will become less aloof with time.

Aww. It must be awful for you. My two are real snugglebugs and I hope when they get older they don't stop wanting cuddles. Hope they soon revert back to their cuddly selves.

Me too I hope she gets back to her normal self soon. she used to hog my bed n now she walks out as I walk in :(

I'm sure it's just a temporary thing. She'll be back to normal soon. It's just a phase cats go through. Mine hadn't used his heated bed in weeks -- then suddenly decided it was the place he wanted to be.

Cats like people go through development phases. When there kittens to about 6 months old there highly dependent on there mother cat. From 6 months to two years is there adolescence stage for the most part. Its when there testing the limits, staking out there ground, figuring out whos boss when you have more then one cat etc.

Your cat is fine and will come about. Out in the wild she would be on her own right now but she is not she is with you...her behavior is a evolved one that we cant change. Remember cats are bred for looks not like dogs where its generally behavior. Its why a Border Collie has this absolute need to herd...observe one around his/her kids they run around them keeping watch...and why a German Shepard excells at being a guard/attack dog. There both dogs but there traits are 100% different...they were bred for that specific trait. Our Bengals were bred to look pretty thats about it...lol. Its why nearly all cats have very similar behavior. In the breeding none of that was altered.

I have gone through something similar with my Bengal. Mia does not like to be picked up anymore, always hangs out with me but after about 10 mins of petting or so she gets annoyed. I have another cat for all that actually lol. Its just her personality...shes fiercely independent. Rather then be upset I enjoy the aspects that she is willing to share with me now and feel pleased about it.

My female, who just turned 3 a couple days ago, is just now warming up and spending time with us finally. They all go through stages for sure (we have 5 cats in total). Granted, we adopted Belle & Mufasa (our 2 Bengals) in August, but the male, Mufasa (who turned 3 on Christmas day) is my lap hound. The 2 are very different for sure, but I do think the female (Belle) will eventually get to the point of wanting actual cuddles, even if only for a short time, but she is much more independent than the male, who acts like a kitten still.
