Hi

What do you do when your cat gets out and doesnt come back? Benji is 1 1/2 yrs old and apart from being on a harness in the garden hasnt been out before. Today he escaped through the bathroom window. we have been out calling shaking treats and his favourite bell ball and nothing. thats was 6 hours ago. So worried he must be so scared.

Are you in a noisy or quiet area?

Keep looking out there, and listen for if he is locked in somewhere. He may be too frightened to move or call out, but may shout if he hears you.

Have you contacted local vets in case he has been taken there?

Is he chipped/has he got a collar on?

Everything crossed for his safe return.

Hi Heather

Thank you for your reply. We live in a not too noisy area but not in the country. He is Chipped but no collar as he never goes out. we have been going out for an hour at a time, calling shining torches hoping to see him. I hate the thought of him being out on his own. will check with vets and start leafleting tomorrow if he hasn't returned.

Pop his litter tray in the garden and leave the bathroom window open - often they will try and return via the same way they escaped.

The Litter tray will allow his scent to travel

Thanks will give it a try, I have had the sun room door open all night and slept in there hoping for his return xx

Any recent pic of him that you can put on flyers?

Door to door knocking widening the search area to see if anyone saw him.

Was he scared, and bolted through the window, or did he climb out to explore?

Where are you located please?

I hope Benji has returned home. Since you do take him outside on a leash, he should be familiar with the area immediately around your home. Cats can get spooked by almost anything and take off running to find a safe hiding place. At some point, he will become hungry, so you might want to just leave some food out and see if he returns. If you see him and he runs away, get a animal trap and see if you can corral him that way. My biggest fear is someone taking the cat because not too many people have seen a Bengal before and even I was startled when I first saw Raiden, thinking he was a leopard of some kind. Make sure your neighbors are aware that your kitty is missing. I created flyers and sent them to the area veterinarians an they all have boards where they post the flyers.

I Googled "how to find missing cat" when I had one go missing earlier this year and got a lot of great ideas. Unfortunately, it's been 9 months and no sign of him. I'm hoping your baby returns home soon. Most indoor cats who gain access to the outdoors are found quite close to home.

Benji is still missing, we live in chessington surrey. we think he climbed out to explore but after climbing out he upset my neighbors dog because she was saying about her dog barking so we think maybe the dog has scared him. today we have leafleted the local houses that are near to us and put flyers on lamp posts with photos, all my immediate neighbors know and have been looking too. xx

after your suggestion about litter tray i rescued a bag of litter from the dustbin that i had changed the day before (only wee as i nappy sack anything else) and we have sprinkled a trail at the service road at the back of our house stopping at our garage. Hoping he will come home soon.xx ( Benji is a cross, mum was pure pedigree but she got out and was a naughty girl!)

Sherry i too googled for ideas and have been trying some out as anything is worth a shot, a can of very strong red salmon is out hopefully he will smell it.
Fingers and paws crossed he will come home soon xx

Sorry to hear he seems to have got himself properly lost. :cry:

If you can do some flyers with that top pic on and put them on lamp posts etc someone may have seen him.

Go out when it is quiet and call from further away, he may have panicked and run if the dog scared him.

Thank you for all your help and support we have FOUND him! we went out calling etc and we put down a tin of red salmon on our walk back he just appeared on top of a garage roof 2 doors away. So very happy xxx

I was reading your posts with my fingerscrossed and I'm so happy for you that he is back :dance4:

! What an adventure he must have been on! The thought of loosing ours makes me feel sick so I can't image what you have been through *hugs* I bet you both slept well last night now that it is all over :)

Glad you have got Benji back......our moggy-Freddie went missing on November 20th and has not been seen since
He has had 3 previous homes so hoping that he has found somewhere else
