How much water do you add?
Basil never drinks water, I'm trying to make sure he gets more water in him.
Just trying to get an estimated amount of what the normal is.

I add 2 teaspoons to 3x wet meal plus Cleo has fish/chicken once a day to which I add a few teaspoons of cooking juices. (5 teaspoons per day)
And she Peeps for England (which is how I like it)

The only worry I have is when she is off her food (often) and I cant add water... I end up giving her fresh cooked (poached) fish with loads of juices just to get water into her.

Wet food alone gives our little desert creatures plenty of water... but personally I add more (when she is well or poorly) to keep peeps frequent and because, like yours she doesnt touch water bowls and I get worried

My Bengal gets mostly wet food. I fill his water bowl to the top in the morning and it's down quite a bit when I get home from work. I've thought about adding some water to his food, just to maybe gravy it up. It would be just a few drops for him. I think adding a few tablespoons to the food each time would be fine for your baby.

I have pretty good luck mixing warm water with the food. It makes it stinkier. I usually do 1/4 of the food amount of warm water.

I suppose you could blend water with some of the wet to make a "gravy"?

Adding water is your strategy for managing his crystals then, Sorry to hear Basil is having this problem.
I offer Cleo (in the summer) extra in-between meal snacks of mashed chicken (not chopped) or mashed white fish and I add alot of water. As long as you limit the portion to prevent ruining appetite for next mealtime it is +1 way to get water into kitty.

When it was really hot here I also wet Cleo down with cupped fresh water on my hands (she put up with it) too cool her off and to instigate grooming that also hydrated her.

have you noticed Basil's condition worsen with different weather? (is it cooling off there now?)

I think it really depends too on what the canned food is, because they vary a lot by moisture level. Weruva contains lots of water. Very "soupy" food. Something like Wellness is pretty much just a glob of dry moist meat. Merrick and Tiki Cat are kind of half way in between.

That's actually one reason why I like Weruva. I notice that even if the cats are being fussy and don't want to eat the entire portion that I give them, the generally will lap up the "soupy" part of it first.

I feed my girl wellness canned food, though she gets one that consists of chunks, slices or minced meat in gravy, which is very different from the blended formula in some of them. She has always been in perfect health with this food, to which i do add around 2-3 teaspoons to every meal. She is fed 3 wet meals a day and grazes on dry in between, though rarely touches the dry food.

Adding water to Basil's food definitely sounds like the way to go!
