Lily has now destroyed a £100 macbook charger and a brand new (4 days old) Wii U controller charger. I just caught her attacking the SECOND mac charger and it has numerous bite marks in it.. I can't keep splashing cash out on this overpriced crap because she eats it.

I'm more angry than upset now as it's two cables she's done this to. Have you had this problem? What did you do? She is constantly engaged and played with, she has lots of affection and love. I just don't get it? Does she just like cableS?

My girl loves anything with rubbery texture to chew... including cables when she first arrived.
I decided to teach her very early on (and sternly) that cables are not for her... it was difficult and made me sad because this was days after I got her and we were bonding but I had to be tough with her from the start on the issue of cable chewing... I decided (and alleviated my guilt) that avoiding an electrocution was important enough to be strict/mean with her regarding cables very early on.

When Cleo very first started to sniff around her saferoom (and following this the kitchen which is her permanent ''bedroom'') I waited for her to investigate cables while watching her very carefully so she wasnt aware I was watching her closely... she sniffed them a little and then progressed to trying a gentle slow bite (or ''mouthing'' to feel) on a cable and at that moment I emitted a loud ''SSSSSSSSSS'' with my tounge-tip. I did this without turning my head towards her or making eye contact and I kept doing it every time she opened her mouth to a cable... I allowed her to sniff but interrupted her bite attempts consistently.... this worked for us.

-actually there are still some cables, thin ones, that I have to keep away from her because they look too much like string (which she plays with and chews often in games) and I cant teach her they are different-

Perhaps you can train Lily to avoid (even be a little scared of) cables with a similar technique? perhaps a new noise that you use just for this issue and nothing else
- a penny filled bottle,
- a large book to slam,
- a can of compressed air
Something new (and unpleasant) to her that she wont directly associate with you... if she is too aware you are telling her off (giving her eye contact and attention when stopping her) she may only learn to avoid cables when you are present - and go nuts on them when left alone.

For the short term only removing them from areas she has access to will keep her safe... I have a drawer in my room that I have placed a gang-plug (you know, a multi socket block thing) inside to plug my chargers into (they all have thin string-like cables), I run the main cable up from underneath the drawer (inside the cabinet that holds the drawers).

Other people here will have had this issue and their own solution... I know you can buy cable covers that are too tough to be bitten through. Hopefully someone can give you a tip that works for Lily.

I've had 2 cats that were cable biters, including Neytiri. She bit through a couple of USB cables and a macbook power cord. It really didn't occur to me to be angry with her though, I was just terrified that she would bite through something that would electrocute her, and if that happened it would be my fault not hers.

I *think* I've cured her. At least I haven't seen her attempt it in several months. I did two things:

1. I tried to prevent her from being able to bite cables as best as I can. I bought covers like these:

They are kind of a pain to use, but she can't bite through them, and doesn't seem to want to even try.

2. I tried to discourage her from wanting to bite cables by making them unpleasant to bite.

So I coated the exposed cords that she previously had been wanting to bite/chew with stuff like this:

Again, it's a pain to use. You get that stuff all over your hands and other places that you *don't* want it, which sucks, but I think it has helped.

Oh gosh, my Raiden stays in my computer room with cables all over the floor and he doesn't touch a thing!!!!

We used hand soap and lime juice (separately, not at the same time) and Max was so disgusted by the taste that he no longer even looks twice at a cable. The bitter spray stuff didn't phase him. But the other kinds stayed behind over a few days. That completely sucks. :(

I too have this problem. Unfortunately I haven't found a solution yet other than trying to put it away diligently. My cats just killed my Mac charger on Wednesday, which makes 2 so far. I feel your pain. Its like im throwing away money seeing as I just bought a third charger .

We've had this issue with Link as well. I've just been negatively reinforcing the bite and putting all my cords in a safe bin at night. Our faults not the cats really, cords can look very enticing to them!
