My 12 week old msle Bengal has got this habit where when I put out the wet food (2× a day) he put his paws in his dry food n he tries 2 burry the wet food as if he would do when hehas gone potty in his litter box. No matter what can food he does it. I mainly feed WELLNESS but when I got him the breeder was only giving him Royal Canin Kitten Dryno wet so I have tried so many wet can food n he seems 2 turn his nose up 2 all of them xcept for friskies chunky meals but i dont want my cats 2 eat bad cat food which would be Friskies. How can I get him2 like the WELLNESS CAN WET ?? Is there another ALL NATURAL WET FOOD that is as good as Wellness that may peak my kitten taste bud interests ??? Wet food recommendations ????? Why is he doing this 2 the wet food
As he is only 12 weeks leave him on the food the breeder had him on, changing foods at this time in his life will stress him out. I find that cats try to bury foods they really hate, so if you force him to eat it alone he will be reduce his intake and that is not good for a growing kitten.
Please just leave him on the food he is used to, he will come to no harm and will get past this vulnerable kitten stage with as little stress as possible.
I see this all the time here, new kitten owners forcing new "better" food onto their kittens, resulting often in vomiting, diarrhoea, refusal to eat, losing weight and sometimes even serious illness.
Royal Canin is an excellent all round food and is perfectly capable of producing healthy cats, why did you decide to change it?
As long as a food is complete it is better for a kitten to eat it, than for the kitten to get stressed over supposedly "better" food it will not eat. Being in a new home is incredibly stressful for a young kitten, so changing the only thing that is ongoing in their life ie their food makes no sense whatsoever to me.
- Stress in kittens is associated with FIP, it is therefore not a good idea to increase the stress in a young kitten.
