I thought I'd share this as it might amuse someone.

Someone I know through work told me this when I mentioned Ella was missing. He and his wife had four cats and one went missing. They did everything they could to find him (an elderly rescue cat) and after ten days the last batch of adverts (paid delivery by local kids) even promised a "very significant reward".

Cat wanders back in of its own accord. A few days later husband asks wife who designed posters, "what did you mean by significant reward?"

Wife replies, entirely seriously, "I advertised it at £2000."

They're still married but his response "but we could have had a new one for £50" had him sleeping in the spare room for a while....

My husband would know better than to say anything like that about my pets! He would be in the dog house for sure! To me my pets are family members, not just animals! It would be like one of your children being kidnapped or running away and saying OH WELL, we do not need to go to the police or try to find them, it will save us money! Who would do that? That aggravates me!

I love my cats... But I'm not sure I could afford over a month's net wages as a reward of one went missing. Remove one 0 and you'd still have massive enthusiasm to find the cat.

However now I know what to do if Oscar gets any more horrific vets' bills... Catnapping for ransom...

Yeah I agree 2000 is a lot! I have put out a $500 reward for my dog once! She ran away when she was pregnant (thanks to a friend letting her out) and she was gone for two days! Thankfully she went to a neighbors and was taken care of! You would not believe the stories people were coming up with! I even had one man try to give me his dog(or I assume, unless he stole it) to get the money! He had a male and of course my girl was a girl  It ended up ok, the neighbors didn't take the money and wanted a puppy instead, so they got the pick of the litter and I got to watch him grow up!
