The fear of being hit by a car is one of my main reasons why my boys are indoor cats.

I just witnessed my neighbour's cat get hit by white van. The van driver didn't even bother to stop.
I ran outside just in time to see her drag herself onto the pavement and collapse dead. It was so upsetting to see.
She was a lovely friendly little black & white cat. I was quite fond of her. She would always play with her son in my garden, and she would always be there watching me when I was out working on my car or bike.

Anyway, I carried her over to her house and informed the woman. She was so heartless. She said just leave "it" there and I'll get it later. She didn't seem the slightest bit concerned. I was watching to see how long she leave her lying outside. Fifteen minutes later, she came out and wrapped her in an old towel and put her in the bin.
This was equally as upsetting as seeing her get killed.
She has two other cats and two dogs. I'm now wondering just how they're treated in her house. She's lived there about a year, and I've never spoken to her before. I now know for certain, I'll never be friends with the heartless bitch.

What a nasty experience to go through, especially with the unsympathetic owner.

If I were you I'd sign her up for tena-lady free samples through the post and all sorts of other marketing crap you get through your letter box.

That's awful. Some people just shouldn't be pet owners   . Karma, that's all I can say!

Jeez. I read the first paragraph and felt saddened then read the second and felt really shocked and angry. How could she not even care?!

I'm sorry you witnessed the poor cat's demise. I'm even sorrier that you had to deal with that heartless woman that calls herself a pet owner.

People can be so cruel :c
My cat Atilea was recently killed by some jerk with a BB gun. My mother found her and took her to the vet, but nothing could be done until she was stabilized. Unfortunately, that never happened and she passed away the next morning. I live 50 miles away from my mother's house, so I couldn't be there and found out she had died over the phone. She was my baby and I couldn't believe that a human being could do that to someone's pet. It was the most horrible feeling I'd ever had. I still miss her greatly and am tearing up as I type this.
For this woman to feel nothing for that poor cat makes me wonder why she even owns any animals. I really can't understand people like that.

aw thats terrible - nasty van driver for not stopping. Accidents do happen on the road - I myself have had the awful experience of a cat bolting out into the road and not being able to avoid it. I did everything I could for that poor cat - driving the same bit of road as never been the same again.

And as for the owner - aw the poor cat, I afraid I couldn't have left it in the bin - i'm not sure what i would have done with the poor thing but i couldn't let its final resting place be the bin or the dump :(

Can't believe some people are so nasty! She doesn't deserve to have any pets.
I'd ring the council & tell them she put the cat in the bin, they might prosecute!
As for the van driver what sort of people just drive on!?! I was behind someone who ran a cat over when I'd just passed my driving test, he/she kept driving & I stopped in the middle of the road junction in rush hour traffic so nothing else could hit the poor cat.
I picked the cat up in my coat & took it to the nearest vets, unfortunately it didn't make it  & it had no ID so we couldn't even contact the owner.
Three other cars stopped to see if they could help (& tell me off if I'd run it over) so there are nice people out there. Hopefully the nasty ones are a minority.

Oh, what a horrible shock that must have been ... it's awful to see an accident happen, whether it's people or animals involved!

I would be inclined to check with the Council, as I don't think you can dispose of dead creatures by putting them in the bin

I couldn't bear the thought of her going to the rubbish dump.
As I see it, we have a responsibility to our pets. They are family and should be treated with the respect they deserve.
Last night, under the cover of darkness, I removed the cat's body from the woman's bin and gave her a burial in my back garden. She was always playing there, and thats where she was heading when she got hit. I think it was the best thing for her.
I don't think the woman mistreats her pets, however I also don't think she regards them as anything more than a possession.
Just before writing this, I had been watching the cats son playing in my garden. He doesn't seem to know he's just lost his mother. I reckon cats don't see death as we do.

David, burying that poor cat in your garden was admirable. So good to think that there are caring people like you around, makes up for the ones who are heartless unmentionables.

Just to clarify; The driver definitely saw the cats. He momentarily slowed and looked back at it before continuing on his way. I know it wasn't entirely his fault, however he showed far more concern for keeping to his time schedule than for the life of a cat. I wonder if he would have stopped had it been a child.
