Bengal proofing windows

Hi everyone.
I was hoping I might be able to get some advice or ideas on how to bengal proof windows.
My 2 bengals are house cats as we like to keep them safe and live on a busy road so will not allow them out.
However this does not stop them being curious!
If we ever have a window open, even the small top window they are always very intrigued and like to jump up and balance on the frame!
Luckily we have been around when they have done this so we have been able to lift them down before they escape! And luckily we have not needed the windows open much as it has been winter and the summer was so bad last year!

We are in the process of buying a house so will be moving in the near future. We are moving into a first floor maissonette and I am trying to plan ahead.
We would love to be able to keep the windows open when needed without having to worry about them getting too curious and either jumping out or in the worse case scenario, falling out.
We obviously can't keep an eye on them 100% of the time so would like the peace of mind that they are safe.

So, has anybody got any solutions for my problem? Any ideas will be gratefuly received!

Hi There

Our relatives when they lived out in South Africa had wrought iron shutters on there window. This allowed the windows to open inwards with the shutters closed. The cats couldn't get through the shutters but the fresh air could get in.

Here in the US, most windows have screens to keep the bugs out. They are usually metal mesh, but you can also buy "pet-safe" screens made of plastic that are supposedly non-tearable. In my case, those have been sufficient to keep my cats inside. I could imagine that a determined Bengal might be capable of ripping them to shreds though. In the basement, I've installed chicken wire in front of the window for added security. It doesn't look pretty, but it's only a basement window and it keeps the cats in when the window is open.

Careful though, even with the stronger screens. Make sure they are attached securely!

At my old apartment, one wall of the livingroom was literally all a window. (huge blinds went across the wall.)

My BAD boy would climb the patio door screen there. I had to have the screen replaced at least three different times because his weight would make the entire thing fall down! Ugh!

I'm lucky they never made me pay to have them keep replacing it.

yeah =) Our security screens have very tough frames and are bolted on with specialist bolts. Someone would need to come with a power drill and the correct bits to remove them to break in now. Easier to just smash a window.

But it DOES make things difficult for the cats!!! No escaping through these things =)
