Hi there, we are now on day 8 of the erythromycin for the campylobacter and day 5 of the ronidazole for the TF. If anything their diarrhoea is getting worse, although they seem happy as anything and certainly more lively than they have done.

I'm worried though that there's been no improvement at all so far in their diarrhoea, can anyone tell me if this is normal? Also, Boosh is taking his pills absolutely fine, but Coolio hates it. My OH has to sit with him for up to an hour to make sure he swallows it. If we put it in any food he just eats around it. Can you get anything to help them take pills?

Hi Elaine, many thanks for this. We haven't had a lot of advice from our vet, I guess because TF is quite unusual, so it's good to have some expert knowledge! Thanks for your help.

Elaine that pill introducer is a life saver thanks!

I cannot get the pill introducer to work for my Bengal. I currently have to give him medication 3 times a day and I am really struggling. Glad it has worked for you. If your Ronidazole is a capsule do be careful that the introducer does not crush it as it will allow the nasty powder to come out.

Yes I found getting the pill into the introducer in the first place was the trickiest bit. I thought I would have a fight on my hands but it worked a treat and I managed it all by myself
Just over a week left on the Ronidazole now... can't go quickly enough! It's their last day on antibiotics today too so I'm hoping to perhaps see their poo getting a bit more solid

Elaine I have tried that minus the cornflour so will give that bit a go. My issue is that he has 1.5 tablets twice a day and another type once a day. Plus liquid 3 times a day which I can now wean down and another liquid once a day. Chances of sneaking up on him to do any of them are so slim now as I'm sure he sleeps with 1 eye open in case I attack him again! If I manage it once per day with ease that is about the best I can hope for. Bad news, he needs 4 weeks of antibiotics so, I have come home today with injections to give him on the days I am alone for most of the day. So mon-fri he has sub cut synulox and the at the weekend my husband will help me give him the tablets to give his neck a rest. I will have to persevere with the metronidazole daily though. First injection tonight so fingers crossed for me, been a while since I have injected a cat, though I give myself injections every day!

Does anyone have suggestions on what to do if you vet has never heard of TF? My cats have been dealing with diarrea for years and poop tests were clear except for 1 which was submitted within 30 minutes. We noted round protozoa and Im worried that its just another giardia misdiagnosis. EDIT; ill send over:

Hi we did some research on the internet and phoned round other local vets until we found one that had treated TF previously. They had already done a lot of research for the first case they treated and they were extremely helpful. Good luck.

I am worried about the effects of Ronidazole, apparently it changes cat's personality and has serious side effects. Has anyone experienced that? This is what an academic article says: "The drug is rapidly and completely absorbed by the gastrointestinal tract and has a long elimination half-life. These properties appear to predispose some cats to neurotoxicosis while receiving the drug. Signs include; lethargy, inappetence, ataxia, and seizures. [...] Continuing treatment after signs of toxicosis are observed could result in life-threatening complications"

This article also states that Ronidazole is banned in the US. But it is not in the Uk, is that right? I am not sure of it is good or bad now. Is Ranidazole really the only effective treatment?
