Greetings all,
I have been reading the various threads on food and have become quite confused. I know there are things I should watch out for in all the major brands of food. I am a vegetarian and have been all my life so doing the raw meat thing would be quite hard for me to stomach.

My question is this. Out of the major brands of food, which have you folks found to be least harmful to your small friends? Which would be the best in the long run in terms of what their bodies can actually process (meaning no random body parts or vegetables in the mix?)

Any direction you folks can give would be greatly appreciated as my young one's are coming home in the next few weeks and I would like to be prepared. Thanks.

We feed our two normal cat food - here in England that means Whiskas and Felix etc and they seem ok with it. We occasionally see some blood in their stools, but I think that's where they have struggled to expel it rather than anything sinister.....

I don't think Bengals are any different to "normal" domesticated cats in what they will eat - we've noticed no difference in their coat etc with what we feed them, they still have the glitter all the same

Of course they love treats of tuna, prawns and fresh chicken occasionally, but we try not to spoil them too much

Have to confess, my breeder recommended a mix of kitten and adult whiskas chicken in jelly. Kitten on its own is apparently too rich for a bengal babies stomach.

Have not read anything about this food type being harmful - where did you read this? Would not want to feed anything that would be bad for my babies

Lubo has not shown any interest in any of the dried variety of foods although I do leave a small bowl on offer in case he changes his mind.

I think mainly what I read was in the section on nutrition in this forum. I may have seen some other breeder sites telling me to beware certain by-products. But I have seen so many sites I cannot pinpoint which ones beyond these forums.

I may just have to go with what I have found here regarding natural foods for kitties.

Regarding the tinned / sachet kitten food we have only ever fed our kittens quality kitten food ie Whiskas in the U.K as this really does have the proper balance of nutrients for kittens. The adult stuff will just fill them up and they won't get what they need from it to help them grow. We've never seen a problem with kittens not being able to digest kitten food on it's own. All I can suggest is that in terms of quantity in a tin the adult food is much cheaper than kitten food and kittens eat a lot of it..

Greyhawke, I can sympathize with you - am not a veggie but like to know what I'm eating where possible. I guess cat food is pretty much the bottom end of the production food chain. I'm almost certain that it's all made from non-human consumption offcuts and various bits some less nice to contemplate than others.

Have you thought about maybe feeding fish.. cheap boneless white fish fillets from the freezer section of a supermarket microwave very easily - mush them up and serve cold. Some of our cats love them, some not. Plenty of nutrients there especially if you can feed a quality (ie expensive..) kibble alongside it. At least with the fish you can see what's in the stuff with your own eyes and have an idea of what's been done to it. Plus there's the option to try adding supplements if you think they are needed. Maybe compromise is the only way.

Thank you all for the input. I spoke with my girlfriend last night. She said I could feed them regular kitten kibble and she would take care of the raw fish side of things for me. Such a nice young lady. This would give me time to acclimate to raw meat in my house, and still keep them healthy and sami-natural. Yay for girls!
