Okay guys, aside from this being a bit icky, I'm not sure if it's entirely on topic as it seems more about me than the kitties but I figured I would ask around anyway. I know we have a couple of nurses on the forum.

Recently both of the boys were de-wormed and had fecals that came out clean. However, this morning I woke up with a mark on my back that raised some concern. It's itchy and if you think it'll help i'll post a picture of it but I figured i'd spare some of you the grossness of it all by just asking if it's even possible.

I've seen some sites that said it is possible to catch ringworm and other things from cats and some that said it isn't.

That on top of the fact that supposedly both boys are clean and do not have any visible marks on them anywhere.

I'm pretty much a hermit myself aside from going to work, so I cannot imagine where else it would even be remotely possible for me to catch ringworm (if that's what it even is) I am SUCH a clean freak too... the kind of person who showers before work and after and runs up the water bill in doing so. lol. To describe it, it's sort of a darker red ring (oh boy) and in the middle of the ring it's pink and sort of flaky kind of like a sunburn when it begins to peel. This morning it was itching so I put hydrocortizone cream on it. I figured I would ask before I freaked out and spent a bunch of money on a doctor or a clinic even. I'm hoping it's not something that requires a prescription because I just spent $3,000 on dental treatment to repair everything in that area. =/

At least if I know it isn't ringworm I can rule out the boys as potential culprits because I TRULY can't imagine where else it would come from and they are always crawling all over our backs in bed, though Brett doesn't seem to have the same issue I do anywhere on himself.

Just curious as to what some of you guys might think it is. Sorry to gross you out, as I am quite confused myself. :(

I did once. From my parents' outdoor cat years ago.
The vet said it wasn't him, though he did have it. My doc said it was.
It's pretty easy to catch and treat but it would be interesting to figure out how it got onto your back since it is transmitted through contact.

they don't go outside so i don't think you would have ringworm...sometimes when the weather changes...like now when the humidity is not a 100% outside i will get some round dry patches and i just put some lotion on and they go away :)

if you really think its ringworm it can be treated with the over the counter stuff that they treat athletes foot with..ringworm is a fungus and not really worms :D

one vet told me that it would be possible to catch it from the scratch.
He said that sometimes cats carry bacterias on their claws and although immune to it themselves they can give it to others.

My husband had sometihing like that - althought it did not itch.
my both cats are indoors mainly, none of them has anything either.
he blames the cats , i blame the swimming pool he goes to - LOL

I didn't want to gross you guys out but this is probably the best way to show you what i'm talking about.

Brett took these pics this morning. Like I said I have no idea if it's ringworm because I've never had it before, and even when I google pictures of ringworm they all seem far worse than what I apparently have. Brett had it once when he was younger and so he thought that's what it may be.

Thanks! =X

I had ring worm once, as a teen. Pretty sure I got caught it from my horse, although it's not actually a worm but a fungi. But you can catch it human - animal, human - human, human - object, human - soil/mud. It's simple to fix and usually shows up in multiple patches.

Have to say, your sore looks more like dry skin.

husband who is a nurse asks if it is near any of your bra fittings?

says it looks like possibly a localised allergy? and suggested if its near the bra fittings, they are often made of nickel with is a known allergen

either way says it really doesnt look like ringworm
