I like both looks but prefer SBT's over EG.

Absolutely, everyone has a right to personal preference, the world would be a boring place if we all thought the same thing!

However, a blanket statement such as "that later generation cats look better than eg's" is not a preference, it's a statement of fact-which is practically impossible to back up on such a subjective matter as looks. This is just another example of this posters continued belittling and ignorant argument against EG's.

Sorry I should have been clearer with my post- I believe that it is a blanket statment to say that later generation cats look better than EG's. A personal remark can be a blanket statement...

Certainly, I am sure there are EG breeders breeding for profit, but the same can be said about any animal breed that attracts high selling prices (sadly).

Firstly i would like to point out that i have admitted i have very limited experience of Bengals & the only other cat i have ever owned is a siamese when i was a boy, however i feel i should be free to express my opinions. You are correct that i believe that later generations look better than the foundation cats, i would back that up by pointing out that responsible breeders of the later generations are striving to create the best looking, healthiest and well socialised cats they possibly can. A breeder of f1's is creating a hybrid cat not breeding for looks/temperament.

Do i believe it's cruel to produce EG's and sell them without seriously vetting the buyer, yes i do, in the same way i believe it's cruel to buy any animal unless you are 100% sure (no buts, if's or maybe's) you can 100% provide the correct care. The original post in this thread was basically i've just bought an f1, help!!!!

We will never agree on this subject but i am surprised that you believe a half wild/ half domestic hybrid can ever be predictable, you don't need to be an expert to know this is wrong.

The big problem with Bengals at the start was that there were a lot of cats with poor temperaments. IMO the rush for rosetting and looks resulted in cats with bad temperaments being used, many were EGs and temperament WAS an issue according to those around at the time, hence the ban from the CFA.

Breeding for temperament took a back seat, when the purpose was rosetting or wild looks.
As the breed became more mainstream, temperament in a domestic breed is very important, so breeding for temperament was also taken into consideration.
Later generation cats are in the main used in Bengal breeding today and the increasing % of domestic blood has overcome many of the frankly aggressive or timid, neurotic temperament traits, though they still occasionally happen.

My concern is that with the present run on EGs, that more and more inexperienced people will breed EGs for the money only and that a lot of those temperament issues will surface back into the breed.
Bengals have always attracted people who breed for money and EGs are merely an extension of this. Anyone can keep EGs in cages, breed them and sell off the kittens. Unfortunately it is the kitten owners, the kittens themselves and those who wish to breed further from them, that will pick up the pieces.

As for blanket statements.
Some love big pancake "clouded leopard" rosettes and are never going to be impressed by EGs or ALC lookalikes and vice versa. That is the way of the breed, neither look is wrong or right for that matter.

Mcjc although I've kept quiet and let my thread run its course, I wasn't asking for help because I had an f1, not even close. I was asking for advice on the situation I was in where I had a kitten who wasn't properly socialized.

Have you ever seen her breedery or other cats or anything? Did you pay for a *picture* of an F1, that she has made excuses up until this point to possibly just rehome another kitten?

I'm not sure if this could be the case but I've had something like this happen before. I was buying a parrot at one point in my life, paid for it from the breeder at weening stages, had pics and everything, am told the parrot had health problems and died, end up being offered another ADULT parrot. Fortunately after a threat of law suit and actually having my brother who is a lawyer send them some correspondance I got my money back, but it was like these people never even bred birds.

Regardless the situation, I'm sorry for your loss. I just bought an unsocialised F6 last week (also my first bengal). I can tell you that he hid under the bed and didn't eat/drink for a couple days and I thought he was a lost cause. It's been 5 days now and right now he's laying on my lap grooming while I'm typing this in bed. Give it time, any animal can be turned loving, it's about the owner/environment 99% of the time.
