I have recently picked out a kitten that is only 5 days old I got the pick of the litter and he is beautiful. I have concerns though he has huge inky spots and chaining down his back I dont really have a trained eye but it looks like his spots are forming rib bars. A lot of rib bars only 1 on one side but 4 on the other pretty much taking up his entire torso on one side . will these spots spreed out or did I just pay a boat load of money for a pet quality bengal. I dont look to show or breed but I have a bengal girl that is pet quality and I love her more than anything but I wanted a show quality cat as well and was given a discount since I purchased more than one. PLEASE help. I dont have any photos all I have is video and I dont want to put that out there. I have a pretty good relationship with the breeder and I dont want to tarnish her reputaion as its not her fault i picked the kitten.

Would probably need a picture to tell. Though, being that your cat is a PET, I'm not sure I see the problem...

When you say rib bars do you mean vertical lines around the rib area - sorry sounds a stupid question but I didnt know whether you were getting confused with chaining along his back?

Now for the important bit......5 days old? - dont panic! most look heavily barred at this age - over time the norm is for the lines to break up into spots and then rosette. My little girl I have looked striped when born - I thought I had a toyger then after a full week I saw it was actually that she was born rosetted so what I was actually seeing was those but joined up - as she grew the space in between grew and lines went

Its far to early to see - and also look at the parents if they are not heavily barred I wouldnt worry toooo much - also if the bars rosette then again this isnt a major problem either.

But again it depends whether you have bought breed, show or pet quality too

You are right there is not a problem with rib bars in a pet at all I actually have a three month old girl who has one on each side. The only thing is i had an agreement with the breeder as to get a top quality cat as I dont intend to show or breed now but I plan to purchase breeders from her within the next year as I have to get registered and have everthing set up. The boy that I am looking at has very very large black spots and he does have chaining down his spine I know he has one rib bar vertical stripe down one side but the other side honsetly he looks like a marble I dont know how to post a video as that is all I have im trying to get pictures. I dont know I am just confused I am new with the bengal breed I have researched then for about 7 months and I dont have an eye as to how they will turn out. When he was two days old he had nothing but huge spots and chaining no rib bars and now he is covered in them. And to add neither his mom nor dad have even what would be a hint of a rib bar! They are both amazing Bengals!

Thank you for your help thankfully there was a mix up at the breeder and she sent me the wrong video! I am so happy now I get my baby in 9 weeks!!! Thanks for your help and I would still like advice on this kitten as my sister is looking at getting him!! Thanks again everyone!
