We are definately going to keep them indoors now. I wouldn't want to risk it. You can't protect them from the outdoors.

We are thinking of building them a outdoor run. ;)

I let my 9 mth old Bengal out a few times but he takes off and is too hard to get back. The last time out he chased a large dog down the street and then went and sat in the gutter on the road! I was horrified. Either a car or a dog will get him at this rate so no more unleashed trips outside. We're going to built a run in the back yard. I think Bengals are too inquisitive to be roaming alone.

I think the dog would have been the loser  .....Bengals sure can let it fly when they want to.

We used to let our boy out before he passed away.....and he most definatly owned the street, Or you would of thought so by they way he stalked his way around.

He had plenty of fights.....even lost half a fang! (still stuck in some dirty old tom-cat somewhere no doubt!)

On the more serious side:

I understand your worry though.....Traffic is the big killer out there and if you let your cat outdoors, It's gonna end in tragedy for sure....our boy used to just sit in the middle of the road and cars would have to stop whilst he just glared at them before he slowly walked off like a total geezer(one of my happiest memories of him in fact)..... we live in a quiet road so it wasn't as bad as it sounds, But still a stupid thing for an urban leopard to do!

Some people feel it cruel to keep cats in an enclosure.....But the same people would find it perfectly acceptable to chain a dog up.....Go figure!

We keep ours in an enclosure purely for peace of mind and also ofcourse any un-wanted male attention ;) .....She loves being in her run chasing flies and wasps around (thats another story though....*The Bingo Paw Incident* :P )

Anyhoo! .....Good luck with the run and be sure to post a photo when you get it finished

None of our bengals are allowed to roam freely outdoors, but we do have a huge outside enclosure for them to hang out in for fun. Several of our stud cats will go for walks on harness and leash. The girls seem to be less keen on the whole leash thing. So far all the dogs encountered have been leashed as well. Good thing, since our bengal males have no fear of dogs and will walk right up to them.
I think there are too many bad things that can happen to a free roaming cat, that outweigh any benefit to the cat's happiness by being set free. We just make sure to take the time each day to see that our cats are entertained and they all seem perfectly content with their indoor arrangements.

Our Bengal cats live in our house they only go outside in our cat pens in the day, this way we know they are always going to be safe from traffic, dogs & theft
