F1 needs a new home - cross posted

Please cross post this:

Cheeto is an F1 bengal kitten that was purchased by an owner and then when the kitten had a medical emergency the owner signed him over to the hospital for the life-saving care needed. The owner did NOT contact the breeder either then or even a month afterwards and the the breeder only found out the kitten was in a rescue when someone posted the link to the Petfinder ad. The breeder is aware of the situation but because the contract is between the former owner and the breeder rather than the rescue, the breeder is not allowed to have the kitten back or to have a say where it goes. Please don't fault the hospital or rescue, they saved his life and are trying to do right by him. The person at fault here is the previous owner. The kitten is healthy now, made a full recovery and is in a 501c3 rescue in Philadelphia, PA. They are looking for the perfect home for him, the adopter must live within 2 hours of Philadelphia so they can do a home check, they do not want the kitten to go to a home with other animals or small children. This kitten was socialized well and use to children and other animals but the rescue makes the rules for adoption. It would be great to see him go to a home that would appreciate his EG status and be prepared to live with him forever. So breeders, bengal friends, if you know anyone in that area looking for a wonderful pet, please have them make contact with the rescue per the petfinder ad. Cheeto's foster mom loves him and would adopt if her life was a bit different. I asked permission from the breeder before posting this. Please feel free to cross post. Cheeto needs a home where he will be loved and appreciated.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I want to take him home so so so badly. I've always felt bad that I didn't rescue any, and for a third cat I have been holding out for an F1. But alas I am FIFTEEN hours away in Wisconsin. Is there any way around the 2-hour rule? I would drive or fly to get him. :cry:

On second thought, I would not be able to build an outdoor enclosure at this time, so I wouldn't be able to get him anyway. Oh well, I hope he finds a good home that can cater to his special/wild needs!

Edit: Usually people who are capable and interested in taking care of an EG (especially F1) are already bengal-owners! I wonder how they are going to find a home that has no other animals.

Unfortuantely, a lot of rescues centres are misguided in a belief that Bengals shoul be only cats! Not sure why really!

Can't understand why the breeder can't take the cat from the rescue centre...

I also can't understand how a person can just buy an F1 and then not afford to pay it's vet bills, surely you insure them!!!!

Yes I'm glad that they didn't put that beautiful baby to sleep, but vet care is part of owning an animal. I do agree that if its an emergency and you have to make a quick decision that would be hard to come up with a couple of thousand dollars. I have gotten lucky and never had an emergency with an animal so I wasn't sure how it worked. You would think you could make payments though......
