Hi all, I know i havent been active for awhile, i do keep up with members on facebook. I thought I would let you all know my plight.
On Friday Hestia was showing signs she was unwell, which isnt common with Hesty, she often has 'episodes' of having low days, not eating and sleeping alot, well we left it on friday, i was on nights so before i went to work on friday night i noticed she was very listless and confused looking, if you picked her up she put her claws out and when you put her down she stood still, confused and dazed.
She was very unsteady on her feet and we noticed she hadnt eaten all day, I went to work that night and on Saturday morning when i returned home she was no better. We took her to the vets, her temperature was 105 degrees, extremely high, she was given an injection for to help bring it down and also an antibiotic incase she had an infection. We already knew Hestia has on large kidney and one small kidney, as she had suspected pancreatitis in 2008 and she was examined back then.
Later on Saturday afternoon she seemed to pick up, but we were thinking it could either be from the effects of the temperature going down or the antibiotic, but still she wasnt volunarily eating or drinking, she would drink if i took her to water, only she vomitted the water back up straight away.
On Sunday afternoon we decided to take her to the emergency vet, where he confirmed her temperature had come down to a healthy 98.7 degrees, but you could clearly see she was distressed, he gave her yet another antibiotic, we were given the option then to have her admitted, sedated and x-rays taken and bloods done, but we thought we would wait and see if she pulled through after the injection, She was also given an injection to stop her being sick.
I had an appointment at the vets this morning at 10.40 basically a re-check from saturday.
I got up this morning, Hestia was standing at the water fountain, looking confused and not drinking, i did notice her fur round her hip area was soaking wet. i wasnt sure if she had fell in the fountain or had urinated in her sleep and lay in it. I sat on the couch, she jumped up onto my knee, Hestia is a lap cat. I took her up stairs to see 'dad' and noticed i had a huge wet patch from her on my lap, i lay her on the bed to get a snuggle, and when it was time to take her to the vet, i lifted her up and the brown bed cover was wet where she had been laying....i guessed urine.
I took her to the vet and she is very jaundiced, the vet explained its either her liver or pancreas, i explained she has had suspected pancreatitis back in 2008. The vet explained the test for pancreatits is fairly new and if she has pancreatitis she may not recover from this.
I have left her in the vets, on an antibiotic drip, and she is having blood tests, they cant sedate her as she is very weak. Fingers crossed its her liver.
Sorry for the very lengthy post, i will update in a couple of hours when i hear back from the vets.
