My three are all going to the vet in the morning to be spayed. It's almost 20 years since I had a female kitten spayed and then it was only a single one. Does anyone have any advice for when they come home? How do I stop them pulling each others' stitches out, how do I keep them quiet etc etc?

Also, does anyone know if it might stop Dolly peeing in strange places? She's the only one that does it and it's got progressively worse as she's got older (now 7 months old) so I'm hoping it's related to sexual maturity because I'm not sure I can cope if she continues to pee all over the furniture, my clothes etc.

Thanks - they're at the vet as I write. I've got to phone after 2pm to check everything is OK. I didn't think to ask if they'd have stitches or glue, I just assumed it would be stitches. I guess I'll soon find out!

( I am so nervous, my kitty will be spayed next month (my first ever female cat) and I am already worried for her! )

Just rung the vet and apparently they're all OK and making lots of noise!

I panicked a bit when she said "we did have a bit of a problem" .............. apparently two of the vets want to take the kittens home with them because they're so gorgeous!!

I'm off to pick them up now - they do have stitches so I'm going to talk to the vet about collars in case they decide to do some of their own surgery.

that's good news, i'm sure they'll be fine. they do seem to get fans at the vets don't they? lol. when i took sugar in yesterday the vet just had to take her out the back & show her off to the other vets & nurses she loved the attention & it made me very proud.

it's lovely hearing the oohs & aahs from people who don't get to see them very often.

I've got three very angry kitties at the moment - apparently they turned into spitting, biting monsters at the vets as soon as the anaesthetic wore off. Fortunately they haven't turned against me but they're still rather wobbly and disorientated. Hopefully they'll feel better after a good night's rest.

Hi, Sorry to barge in on this discussion but I'm new to this and I have just had my two girls spayed yesterday. I am really worried about one of them as she is still very shaky, hasn't been drinking water and has only eaten a tiny bit of food. Every time we pick her up she yowls and her stitching doesn't look good. I think she might have attacked the stitching before we got her home. She's spending every moment lying really still and she usually won't sit still for more than 2 minutes!

Can anyone advise me on how long it can take before this kind of thing stops and also for how long the collar needs to stay on because she hates it! I hate seeing her like this especially as our other girl is eating drinking and walking around as though nothing has happened.

The collar should stay on for at least 5 days.

If your girl is still unwell tomorrow, you should go and see the vet, usually there's no problem but sometimes it happens...
