I want that second kitten but have been hand wringing for some reason (Double meowing, only two hands, two cats on the counter during dinner time, double engagement ??). You have all been quite supportive on the idea. I know you're all cat lovers but still, I needed to hear the reinforcement from all of you. I heard the words I was looking for. Looks like a new baby is probably coming my way! Thank you.

Introduced a 12week old male kitten into household alongside his 2year older brother 5days ago. Prepped the oldest with zilkene, it's great stuff and I'll get more. He is often outside. I have a kitten room, which is working well but the eldest refuses to meet his younger brother. Pride/scardey cat combo? Glad someone said feliway plug-in a waste of money but will consider the spray. Doing the sock ceremony for smells. Have cardboard castle in the neutral kitchen area. Just wish no1 son would stay long enough to meet no2 son! Time is a great healer I hope. Before he feels he needs to sleep outside forever. we miss his bengally highness xx Ps: the dog is a legend and no problem

Multi-cat households can be an issue! Each cat has its own personality and you have to blend all of that together. Feliway is great, but it has to be in the area of the problems. The spray works well, too. It just takes time for two kitties to get along. And you say that the older cat is outside! This will become an issue for the kitten at some point. It's difficult to have an outdoor cat and an indoor cat, unless you're planning to let the kitten outside at some point. Time and patience and working with the cats in introducing them is the key.

Kitten will go outside when he is neutered and chipped. Concerns that two males will be an issue. Anyone else found this?

Male cats are territorial, even neutered males. One will become the alpha male and there may be some aggression going on until that it settled. If you have other cats in the neighborhood, there is going to be a hierarchy that can result in vicious cat fighting and serious injuries. I'm not an advocate of cats going outside unless they are supervised. I read every day about a cat who has vanished and the owner is extremely upset. Sometimes the cat returns home, many times, it does not. The whole keeping cats indoors vs outdoors is subjective. You're going to have to get your kitten used to the outdoors and the yard, so supervising the kitten outside in the beginning is the key. You don't want the kitten running off and not knowing how to get home. Make sure your neighbors are familiar with your cats so they don't go adopting them if they come around to their house.
