Hello everyone

I am new here and hoping to get some advice.

Just wondering if any of you have a Bengal cat living alongside
parrots or know of someone who has?

The reason I am asking is we had a standard moggy who sadly died
recently aged 15 years, for many years our cat and parrots lived
together quite happily, although they were never left alone together.

We have been offered a Bengal kitten, not true 100% Bengal but a
cross breed - the mother cat escaped and went off with a stray.
I have read a little about this particular cat and I am really not
sure if such a cat would be suitable to share a home with birds.

I know many people would advise not to have a cat with parrots full
stop, but we had no problems with our previous cat at all, with
careful supervision our cat simply never bothered with the birds, if
anything he was more scared of them.

Is your Parrot caged?

We have 2 young Bengal's with a Cockatiel. The cockatiel lives in a cage in our living room. 80% of the time the cats aren't interested in the bird but then occasionally they become intrigued and we have found the odd paw between the bars of his cage (although paws are no contest for the bird, he just retaliates with his beak)

We NEVER leave the cats alone with the bird. If we go out we make sure the living room door is shut. Bo (the bird) does come out of his cage but NOT when the cats are around, they wouldn't hesitate to eat him given half a chance.

It's tricky, but it can be done, although I wouldn't recommend it if your parrot is not caged.

We always have a water spray bottle by the cage and when ever the cats get to close they get sprayed. It works quite well as a deterrent and now (12 months on) they hardly ever bother him.

Might be worth pointing out that Bengals appear to have more of an interest in catching other wildlife than normal cats. Ours will watch them through the window for as long as they stay visible and often make "chattering" noises. Ours don't go outside, but I'm sure given half a chance they'd come back with all sorts of animals - a guy on another forum who does let his Bengal out said that once it came back with a full size rabbit mutilated Cutting to the point, they might get along ok supervised, but never leave them alone, the Bengal will find a way into that cage and attack it, that's for sure - bare in mind that our Bengals can easily open doors in the house and will even climb a brick wall if they want to B)

That'll be me then

but I'd like to point out it has been many more times than juust once!!

My mother had a Siamese cross that once came home with a seagull :blink: ....god knows how he caught it but as soon as he let go of it took off (much to the cats disgust)

Just been real busy, not enough time to sit in front o the PC....

I normally find the "dead offerings" at a silly time of the moning (5-ish)....when, to be honest, I'm in no fit state to find the camera!....but I'll try next time (Due for another killing soon I guess....its been nearly a week since the last rabbit!)...

Another thing Didi does (The Bengal), when he catches a rabbit with fleas....tehy often group on his ears......he doesnt like ti, so he jumps on a lap, and presents an ear with a "suck them off" (Steady!) look on his face........que the pipette of anit-flea stuff get squiged on the back of his neck.....

B engals eh, gotta luv'em!

Where's the pics of said Bengal? Sounds like a right character (aren't they all?)
