Hello all,

My name is Alan, and I'm the very proud owner of two beautiful Bengals.

My first Bengal is Sampson, a six year old (neutered) male. He's his daddy's boy, and I'm very close to him. I never got the papers on him (and don't really care) but I think is he from New Hampshire area. I bought him near Memphis, from a breeder named Karen Reed (house of many cats). Don't know her whereabouts anymore, but would like to say hi sometime.

Our newest addition is Mia, now 9 months old, spayed 3 months ago. She is from Kajari Bengals www.kajari.com . She has an amazing personality, and is already a deep rooted member of our family. She plays fetch with more intensity than any other cat I've seen (had 3 fetchers, including Sam). She wins hands down.

My question is this: Sam and Mia don't always get along. When the kitten gets to close to Sam, he growls a lot and rarely gets mad enough to hiss, and there is the regular swatting. If he knows she is close, he will growl, even from lap while simultaneously purring!

Will age mellow this power struggle?

Just took some pics of Mia today, she was about 5 months in the pic above. 9 months now. Sam wasn't up for pics, just wouldn't stay still. Didn't have too much more luck with the kitten, but got a few.



And this was about 6 weeks ago. Tree wasn't inside for 3 minutes and she was up it.

Since having Sampson have you ever had any other cats? It may just be that he's so used to being daddy's 'ONLY' boy that he's not prepared to let anyone get in the way

Try and play games that involve both of them (although avoid forcing them together...it'll only make things worse), we recently bought a panic mouse for our cats and it seams to be irresistible. If Sampson is the playful type he'd no doubt play regardless of who else is around and hopefully he'll be to busy playing to worry about Mia.

Also, try treating him with a little bit of sandwich ham/chicken when Mia come close. Firstly it will help to take his mind of her and secondly he should start to associate her approaching with something nice :huh:

I've never experience that behaviour so I can't be sure if my suggestions will work but it won't hurt to give em a go!

...Sampson looks like a fine boy and Mia has the prettiest little face (love those little ears)

I don't really have any good advice as I'm having a problem with a 4 year old gray female cat we have getting along with our bengals. She won't stop harrassing them, so they basically keep their distance. We've had our first bengal now for a couple months and the second for about a month, so I'd think they'd get along by now. I think the gray cat is just jealous...

Thanks for the tips, very helpful. We've already tried a few of those techniques, but the loud skirmishes are still a daily occurance. I guess it just depends on their mood. If Mia wants to play (always) and Sam doesn't - there's a fight.

Yes, we had another cat before Mia, but they were separated due to the age of the older one (died last fall at 16). Sam was just as aggressive as Mia at that age, and the older one was in poor health. So, he's had the rule of the roost most of his life.

We lavish him with attention, they both get equal time. It just seems most time he doesn't like her.

But, Sam will bathe Mia, eat next to her, stand at the glass door looking out inches apart without confrontation. Weird, huh?

I'm thinking this will settle down, and Sam will let us get some sleep. Funny thing is, he was almost SILENT until we got the kitten. Just a few peeps at mealtime. Now, much more vocal! I'm ok with it, but its a little embarrasing to have a howling cat fight when company is over.
