A couple of weeks ago I reported that Coco's long term loose stool with a bit of blood problem was caused by foods that contain eggs. Turns out there is a part 2 to the story. While trying to find high quality foods with no egg that she would eat I settled on the Wellness brand line of foods, both dry and canned. They contain no egg and although not the high protein, low carb foods I really perfer, they are higher protein and lower carb than most. But after starting her on these foods the loose stool returned, worst than ever. At first I thought it must just be that she needed an adjustment period for the new food because I knew it didn't have egg. After 2 weeks with the loose stool just getting worst, I looked at the ingredients again. Turns out the Wellness canned foods have quite a bit of fruits and vegetables that aren't in the foods that Coco didn't have a problem with. The ingredients include: sweet potatoes, carrots, squash, blueberries and zuchinni. Cranberries too but that is in other foods that she tolerates well. I took her off the Wellness and her stool immediately returned to normal.
So now I need foods that don't have egg, fruits or vegetables, that are high protein and low carb and that she will eat. It is a very short list. An empty list actually... Sigh.
For the time being I am feeding her Royal Canin Skin Care dry and various Pro Plan canned flavors. After a couple of days I'm going to try the Wellness dry again, it doesn't have all that silly stuff in it.
I am very seriously considering a raw diet. That seems the only way I can really control what she eats. I have experimented a little and I think all 3 of my cats would eventually adjust to it.
It's a good thing Coco is a bonzer little kitty and is worth all this trouble.
