I've noticed my 6 month old sort of coughs or hiccups after drinking water. His stomach moves in and out quite a bit. Does this several times and then he's ok. Any thoughts why he does this?

Thanks!

Hi

I have two bengals, one is 6 months old and the other is about 3 months old. They both prefer drinking out the tap and the same thing happens to both of them. I think its the water running up their noses. I leave a water bowl out for them but they still go to the tap so it can't be too annoying for them :)

I wouldn't worry about him, sounds just like a normal cat thing.

Could be gulping down the water and burping afterwards.

Indy (9 month now) coughs when he drinks loads of water since we got him. I think he is just greedy and drinks it too fast :)

Hi Ben,

My femal bengal (1 year 4 months) does the exact same thing .. WOW!

I have one of those freshflow water fountains for my two and with out a doubt, everytime the girl has had a drink, she starts her coughing. I've just accepted this now and give her a little comfort after she is finished.
She doesn't look sick, never has been and her health is 100% (vet checked), so I am not going to worry about it. Sooo if your's is fine health wise etc, then I wouldn't worry too much.
