He is a Brown Marble... I could understand if sheds a little, but whenever I touch him, i come away with a handful of fur or it's all over my clothes. He was born in March 06, and this seemed to have started sometime after we had him neutered... around September I believe. We live in South Florida, so there isn't a real "change of seasons," it's been consistently warm (in the 70's - 80's all winter).

Well, as far as diet goes, we've been feeding him what was recommended by his breeder, so it can't be lack of protein... We will, however, bring up this issue with the vet at his next visit.

Ok, I have a little update...

When we first brought him home, we fed him what the breeder had been giving him - Nature's Variety Prairie. Around November, IIRC, we had switched him to Iams (out of convenience, it was a shorter trip by about 6 miles). Starting beginning of January, we switched him back to the Nature's Variety.

Lo and behold, I've noticed that now a month later, his shedding has started to subside JUST a bit. He's still shedding alot, but not quite as bad as before. I noticed on the link above, that lack of enough protein can contribute to the hair loss. I am wondering if that little change in diet could be what caused this to happen.

We are going to monitor his shedding for now to see if it continues to improve, and see if in fact, his change in diet was to blame.

Well, it's now March, and after being back on Nature's Variety for the last few months, his shedding hasn't improved at all. It's still just as bad as before. I swear, I would vacuum his coat if he'd sit still long enough! LOL j/k

But really, I actuallly bought a portable vacuum for hard floors now, and use it every other day in the kitchen and foyer, and I pick up about a 1/4 cup of cat hair each time. I'm constantly having to wipe down the wood furniture and table tops, and use a sticky roller on the dining room chair seats where he likes to sit (I do that every weekend). Still, when I pet him or scratch his ears, you can see the fur just flying into the air in a cloud. One day, he was sitting on the top of his "tree," and he was scratching himself under his chin... with the sun shining from behind him, I just saw this cloud of fur rising into the air the more he scratched.

I mean, has anyone experienced this with their bengal before? None of my friends that have Bengals have this problem, they tell me theirs hardly shed at all. I've also noticed that I may have possibly developed an allergy to something in the house, as I'm always suffering from a runny nose (especially when I clean). I'm hoping it isn't Leo!

I've got 4 Bengals in the house and 2 of them slee in the living room. Every week when I vaccum I do the cushions on the sofa where they sleep.
All cats do lose their fur apart from Sphynx

I think also if you think about it we have central heating in our homes to keep warm, cats have thick coats and will release their fur to cool down. If it's really hot where you are then Leo will need to constantly shed his coat.

Our dog sheds his coat more than our cats and I have to vaccum 3 times a week where he has been.

If he isn't ill I wouldn't worry too much.

I was allergic to cats when I was a child and suffered with a runny nose and tickly throat. But I won't be without my pets and over the years I don't seem to be as allergic to cats anymore.
You could take some antihistermine tablets to see if this helps you with your runny nose

Well, thanks for the insight... I do know that every animal sheds, but one of the reasons why we decided on the Bengal was because everyone said they shed very little. My friend in NJ has two, and even she says they hardly shed at all, she can handle them without being covered with hair. Who knows, I guess we'll just have to deal with it! lol

So my bengal sheds quite a bit too. I don't know if she sheds the same amount as your cat but... I just want to bring up the subject of sunlight.
A cat sheds more as h/she stays under the sun longer. I also recommend Furminator, an amazing brush that reduces shedding dramatically. You can get one from Petsmart, a bit pricey but it helps.

Both of our boys shed very little if at all and I hover the sofa and cushions once a week.
