I took Cooter to the vet today. Everything was good. The Vet said something about the disease and said it usually will show up around the age of 7 or 8. She said to make sure that we take Cooter to all his annual visits and if he seems not himself to bring him in asap.

I cannot find any resource that states HCM is inherited via an autosomal dominant mode of inheritance. Please can a link to this source of information be put on this thread.

Also could those in the know tell me where I can find figures to support how common this disease in in Bengal cats?

I agree Elaine, the only way forward is to educate about HCM have breeding animals screened & any that unfortunately have the disease are culled from any further breedings.

Even if it means that these cats are 'titled' to carry on breeding would be ludicrous as although beautiful looking from the outside this wouldn't be the case inside.

Hopefully they get enough blood samples to be able to 'pinpoint' exactly how it developes.

The more it is spoken about the more people will become aware.
