Hi everyone I'm new here, I'm desperate for any advice anyone may have. Shilpa is almost nine months old, she's very fit and active but last Thursday started limping on her front right paw. Friday morning it was straight to the vet who couldn't find anything. Saturday morning we woke up and her paw was massively swollen with two toes having become enormous. By Sunday her end toe had split open it was so large. Straight to the vet Monday and they diagnosed a nailbed infection but we don't know the cause. She had an anti inflammatory and an antibiotic injection but is still no better today and we returned to the vet. She has been given a different course of antibiotics with the proviso that she will probably have a biopsy on Monday to see what the tissue is like. I live in a rural location, we have lots of wasps, hornets and bees aswell as the usual cows, a couple of sheep, dogs etc. Possibly adders and grass snakes too. She doesn't really wander as she likes the company of us and the other cats and dogs. Has anybody ever heard of anything strange like this that is particular to Bengals??I am desperate to hear of anybody's experiences as we've been told that there is the possibility of the infection, if it is an infection, spreading to the bone, hence the threat of amputation. poor shilpa it sounds ever so painful. it's not something i've heard of before & i would say certainly not specific to bengals as it would have come up in discussion before now.

it sounds to me like a random infection which could unfortunately happen to any breed of cat or crossbreed...infections aren't breed specific. i hope the antibiotics start to work for her soon, or the vets can find something to fix it for her.

Thanks everyone, its strange because now we know what it is I've noticed more blisters are appearing that I'd just thought were scratches. They appeared much the same as the pimples do in a child and over a few days have turned into angry blisters but nothing like the ones on her paw. The vet says we are definitely looking at a month at least recovery time but apart from being sick a few times she is perfectly happy in her self now.
